Vlissingen (; zea, label=Zeelandic, Vlissienge), historically known in English as Flushing, is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality and a city in the southwestern Netherlands on the former island of Walcheren. The Vierde Divisie, formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league is divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This is a result of the traditional pillarisation ( nl, verzuiling), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. The ''Sunday'' clubs were in general Catholic and working class clubs, whose players had to work on Saturday and therefore could only play on Sunday. Although the pillarisation ended in the 1960s and 1970s, the clubs and the league have maintained this division. Eerste Divisie
The Eerste Divisie (, en, First Division) is the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands. It is linked with the top-level Eredivisie and with the third-level Tweede Divisie via promotion/relegation systems. It is also known as the Keuken Kampioen Divisie due to sponsorship, while previously it was known as Jupiler League for the same reason. History The Eerste Divisie consists of 20 clubs, who play each other in a double round-robin league, with each club playing the other club home and away. Each club plays every other club once in the first half of the season before the league takes a winter break around the Christmas and New Year's holiday season. The second half of the season sees the same fixtures as the first half, with the stadiums changed, although the two halves are not played in the same order. Emiel Dorst
Emiel Dorst (25 December 1970) is a former Dutch footballer who played as a midfielder. He was born in Oosterland. After professional football, Dorst worked as a boat carpenter and furniture maker. Club career Dorst started playing at SV Duiveland and at VV Kloetinge, playing in higher leagues, he reached the first team. He next played at VV Zierikzee. In 1990 Dorst turned professional at VC Vlissingen. The next season the financially struggling professional team continued as VCV Zeeland and eventually discontinued. Dorst continued in 1992 to NAC Breda where he played in the first and second squad. In 1993 Dorst transferred to Tubantia Borgerhout in Belgium. He left this club in 1995 to play for RBC Roosendaal in the Eerste Divisie. Starting December 1999 he played in TOP Oss, also in the Eerste Divisie. Harry Van Den Ham
Harry Van Den Ham (born 16 August 1954) is a Dutch professional football manager and former player. Playing career Van den Ham played for UVV Utrecht in his youth and from the age of 11 began playing for USV Elinkwijk. With Elinkwijk, he became Dutch champions with the Sunday amateurs in 1974. In 1975, he switched from the amateurs to professional football. Van den Ham subsequently played in the Netherlands for FC Utrecht, SC Cambuur, FC Den Bosch, DS '79 and PEC Zwolle. In 1980, he was briefly playing for the Tulsa Roughnecks in the United States. In Belgium he also played for Berchem Sport. In 1985, Van den Ham began playing with the Utrecht-based amateur association USV Holland. At the age of 34, Van den Ham made his comeback in the Eredivisie for VVV in 1988. From 1990, he played for another year for VC Vlissingen, after which he retired from his active professional career. Peter Jacobus van Vossen (; born 21 April 1968) is a Dutch former professional football player and manager. Club career Van Vossen was born in Zierikzee. As a footballer, he played for Beveren, Anderlecht, Ajax, Istanbulspor, Rangers, Feyenoord, De Graafschap and Vitesse. During his time with Ajax he won the 1994–95 European Cup.
