Vortex (Amiga Video Game)
''Vortex'' is a 1989 video game for the Amiga. The game is similar to the game Ebonstar. Gameplay The player must keep anything from entering the swirling vortex in the middle of the screen, using a mouse to control movement and avoid walls. Development The game was developed by Visionary Design Technologies(VDT for short) a company based in Canada that was founded by Randy Linden. It was announced in May 1989. ''Compute!'' (), often stylized as ''COMPUTE!'', was an American home computer magazine that was published from 1979 to 1994. Its origins can be traced to 1978 in Len Lindsay's ''PET Gazette'', one of the first magazines for the Commodore PET computer. In its 1980s heyday ''Compute!'' covered all major platforms, and several single-platform spinoffs of the magazine were launched. The most successful of these was '' Compute!'s Gazette'', which catered to VIC-20 and Commodore 64 computer users. History ''Compute!''s original goal was to write about and publish programs for all of the computers that used some version of the MOS Technology 6502 CPU. Amiga
Amiga is a family of personal computers introduced by Commodore in 1985. The original model is one of a number of mid-1980s computers with 16- or 32-bit processors, 256 KB or more of RAM, mouse-based GUIs, and significantly improved graphics and audio compared to previous 8-bit systems. This includes the Atari ST—released earlier the same year—as well as the Macintosh and Acorn Archimedes. Based on the Motorola 68000 microprocessor, the Amiga differs from its contemporaries through the inclusion of custom hardware to accelerate graphics and sound, including sprite (computer graphics), sprites and a blitter, and a pre-emptive multitasking operating system called AmigaOS. The Amiga 1000 was released in July 1985, but production problems kept it from becoming widely available until early 1986. Ebonstar
''Ebonstar'' is a computer game developed by MicroIllusions in 1988 for the Amiga. The player character commands a fleet of spacecraft around an ever-moving, extremely dangerous black hole in this space-based competition set in the 31st century. The player fires the fleet's weaponry at opponents' spacecraft to knock them into the black hole and destroy them. However, the black hole also spits out more opponents as well. As many as four players can compete simultaneously. In 1988, ''Dragon (magazine), Dragon'' gave the game 5 out of 5 stars. ''.info'' (originally ''INFO=64'' and later ''INFO'') was a computer magazine covering Commodore 8-bit computers and later the Amiga. It was published from 1983 to 1992. History ''INFO=64'' began as a newsletter published by its founder, Benn Dunnington, operating out of a spare bedroom in his home. After a few issues, the entrepreneurial spirit struck and he decided to expand it into a full-fledged magazine. The first few issues of the magazine were published by Dunnington operating as a sole proprietorship in the state of Washington. After a few issues, he moved the company to Iowa, eventually incorporating as ''Info Publications, Inc.''. This, in turn, became a limited partnership, (''Info Publications Ltd''), which published the magazine until its demise. ''INFO=64'' was produced using personal computers. ''Datastorm'' is a video game for the Amiga published by Visionary Design in 1989. Written by Søren Grønbech, it was inspired by the horizontally scrolling ''Defender (arcade game), Defender'' arcade game and the ''Defender''-like ''Dropzone'' originally released for the Atari 8-bit family. Gameplay ''Datastorm'' allows for a single player to play or two players to play simultaneously or one after the other. The game takes place on planets in a side scrolling format that wraps around with the player flying above in a spacecraft. The player must protect and rescue the 8 survival pods that roll around on the surface of the planet and take them to a warp gate. An onslaught of enemies try to destroy the spaceship so constantly destroying these enemies and their missiles is necessary. There is also a special type of enemy called an alien lander that captures the pods and whisks them away to the top of the level.
