Volleyball At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's Tournament
The men's tournament in volleyball at the 2000 Summer Olympics was the 10th edition of the event at the Summer Olympics, organized by the world's governing body, the FIVB in conjunction with the IOC. It was held in Sydney, Australia from 17 September to 1 October 2000. Qualification Pools composition Teams were seeded following the serpentine system according to their FIVB World Ranking as of January 2000. FIVB reserved the right to seed the hosts as head of pool A regardless of the World Ranking. Rankings are shown in brackets except the hosts. Stelio De Rocco
Stelio DeRocco (born 13 April 1960) is a former Canadian volleyball player and coach. He was the coach of the Australia men's national volleyball team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where the team finished 8th. In 2004, he signed a contract with the Canadian national team until 2006. De Rocco was a member of the Canadian national team in 1977-80 and 1985–86. Alexandre Samuel
Alexandre Ramos Samuel (born March 20, 1970), nickname Tande, is a former Brazilian volleyball player. He began playing volleyball for the Botafogo team when he was 12 years old. Tande won a gold medal with the Brazil men's national volleyball team, Brazilian national volleyball team at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. In 1995, he finished in fifth place with the Brazilian team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 1997, he switched to beach volleyball and partnered with his former teammate, Giovane Gavio. Giovane Farinazzo Gavio (born September 7, 1970 in Juiz de Fora), known as Giovane, is a retired Brazilian volleyball coach and former player, who was a member of the Brazil men's national volleyball team that won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain by defeating The Netherlands (3-0) in the final. Playing as an outside hitter, Gavio competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992. Later on he started a career in beach volleyball. Giba
Gilberto Amauri de Godoy Filho, known as Giba (born 23 December 1976), is a Brazilian former professional volleyball player who played as an outside hitter. For much of the 2000s, he was widely regarded as one of the best volleyball players in the world. During his professional career he played in Brazil, Italy, Russia, Argentina and briefly in the United Arab Emirates. He is mostly remembered for his successes with the national team. With the Brazilian National Team he won a total of 8 South American Championships, 3 America's Cups, 8 World League titles, 3 World Grand Champions Cups, three World Championships (2002, 2006, 2010), a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and two silver medals at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, where he was the team's captain.
