Voice Of The City
''The Voice of the City'' is a 1929 American Pre-Code film by Willard Mack and starring Robert Ames. Modeled on a stage play, it is not related to the story of the same name by O. Premise A young man is accused of murder and a master detective is set to track him down and uncover conclusive evidence of his guilt, but the more he works on the case, the more he becomes convinced that the accused is not the real killer. Willard Mack
Willard Mack (September 18, 1873 – November 18, 1934) was a Canadian-American actor, director, and playwright. Life and career He was born Charles Willard McLaughlin in Morrisburg, Ontario. At an early age his family moved to Brooklyn, New York. After two years, they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where McLaughlin finished high school. His parents returned to Canada, but he went on to study at Georgetown University in Washington, D. C., where he became involved in student plays. Adopting the stage name Willard Mack, after graduation he took minor acting jobs for a few years and did Shakespearian repertoire. However, writing scripts was what he was most interested in, and his second effort, about the North-West Mounted Police, ''In Wyoming'', was a commercial success and was later the basis for his film ''Nanette of the Wilds''. Beatrice Banyard
Beatrice Banyard was an American screenwriter and actress active in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Biography Beatrice was born in Spring Valley, Iowa, to A.T. Banyard and Ida Burnett, the second of two daughters. She grew up primarily in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was a well-known society girl. She began acting in plays in the area as a young teenager. She married John Stone in 1917; the pair had two children but were soon divorced. After the split, she began a career on the stage, at which point she was reacquainted with playwright, film director, and actor Willard Mack, whom she met when she was 12. He made her his fourth (and final) wife in 1927. She left him soon afterward, but the pair reconciled and remained married until his death in 1934. She continued acting through the 1920s and early 1930s, and around 1931, she began writing film scenarios after she and Mack moved to Los Angeles, where he was contracted by MGM as a writer.
