Virginia Tech Hokies Women's Soccer
The Virginia Tech Hokies women's soccer team began in 1980 with two club teams under the guidance of Everett Germain and his two daughter's Betsy and Julie. Virginia Tech's women's soccer became a college soccer program that competes in NCAA Division I in 1993. The team played in the A-10 and the Big East before moving to the Coastal Division of Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014. The team has advanced to the NCAA Women's soccer tournament nine times. Their best appearance is reaching the semifinals in 2013. Their home games are played at Sandra D. Thompson Field. History 1990s The Virginia Tech Hokies women's soccer team began play under coach Sam Okpodu in 1993. The team had a respectable first season, finishing 6–10–1. Charles Adair (soccer)
Charles "Chugger" Adair (born August 11, 1971) is a retired American association football, soccer player and current soccer coach. He spent two seasons in the Continental Indoor Soccer League, two in the National Professional Soccer League (1984–2001), National Professional Soccer League and seven in the USISL A-League / USL First Division. Early life and education Adair grew up in Chula Vista where he played soccer as a youth. When he was five, he underwent open heart surgery. Adair attended Hilltop High School (Chula Vista, California), Hilltop High School. He was inducted into the Hilltop Hall of Fame in 2001. In 1989, he entered San Diego State University where he played one seasons with the men's soccer team. He then transferred to the University of San Diego and played with the Toreros for three seasons. 2020 Virginia Tech Hokies Women's Soccer Team
The 2020 Virginia Tech Hokies women's soccer team represented Virginia Tech during the 2020 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. It was the 28th season of the university fielding a program and 17th competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hokies were led by 10th year head coach Charles Adair and played their home games at Thompson Field. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ACC played a reduced schedule in 2020 and the NCAA Tournament was postponed to 2021. The ACC did not play a spring league schedule, but did allow teams to play non-conference games that would count toward their 2020 record in the lead up to the NCAA Tournament. The Hokies finished the fall season 5–8–0, 4–4–0 in ACC play to finish in a tie for sixth place. They were awarded the seventh seed in the ACC Tournament based on tiebreakers. The 2019 Virginia Tech Hokies women's soccer team represented Virginia Tech during the 2019 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. It was the 27th season of the university fielding a program and 16th competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hokies were led by 9th year head coach Charles Adair and played their home games at Thompson Field. The Hokies finished the season 12–5–2, 4–4–2 in ACC play to finish in a tie for eight place. They were not invited to the ACC Tournament. They received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament where they lost to Xavier in the First Round.
