Virata
Virata ( sa, विराट, IAST ''virāṭa''), was the king of the Matsya Kingdom, in whose court the Pandavas spent a year in concealment during their exile. Virata was married to Queen Sudeshna and was the father of Prince Uttara and Princess Uttarā, who married Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna. Abhimanyu and Uttara's son Parikshit succeeded Yudhishthira on the throne of Hastinapura, after the war of Mahabharata. He is the titular character of the Virata Parva, the fourth book of the epic Mahabharata Life Virata was a good ruler. Virata Kingdom
Virata was a kingdom ruled by the Matsya king by the name Virata. It was here that the Pandavas spent their 13th year of anonymity ( Agyata Vasa) after their 12 years of forest-life ( Vana Vasa) in the forests of Kamyaka and Dwaita. It was also known as Virata Nagari, modern Bairat in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan. Akhnoor, a town in Jammu and Kashmir is also considered by some as the Virat Nagar. Upaplavya was another city in this kingdom where the Pandavas and their allies camped before the beginning of the great Kurukshetra War. King Virata and his sons took part in the great war and perished. Virata's daughter Uttara married Arjuna's son Abhimanyu and gave birth to Parikshit who later became the Kuru king after the reign of the Pandavas. Buddhanagar: Archaeological survey in 1960 also found ruins of a temple estimated to be built around the 1st century BCE, around the time of the Mahabharat. INS ''Viraat'' (Sanskrit: Virāṭa meaning ''Giant'') was a of the Indian Navy. INS ''Viraat'' was the flagship of the Indian Navy before was commissioned in 2013. The ship was completed and commissioned in 1959 as the Royal Navy's , and decommissioned in 1984. It was sold to India in 1987. INS ''Viraat'' was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 12 May 1987, and served for almost 30 years. In February 2015, the Navy stated that ''Viraat'' would be decommissioned the following year. The last British-built ship serving with the Indian Navy, she was the oldest aircraft carrier in service in the world.
