''Vintage Future'' is the ninth studio album by the American post-punk band The Intelligence, released on September 25, 2015 on In the Red Records. The album was produced by vocalist and guitarist Lars Finberg and former guitarist Chris Woodhouse. The album features contributions from Finberg's former Thee Oh Sees bandmates Brigid Dawson and Petey Dammit. Reception In a positive review for AllMusic, Heather Phares praised the album's diversity and aesthetic: "''Vintage Future'' is one of the Intelligence's most focused albums, and their most clever and satisfying music in some time." In another positive review for The A.V. Club, David Anthony wrote: "The record is an amalgam of classic sounds updated for the modern era. At times it’s easy to see the influence of Devo or The Stooges, but it even bares a passing resemblance to some of Denton, Texas’ garage-punk greats." The Intelligence
The Intelligence is an American rock band from Seattle, formed in 1999. Founded by multi-instrumentalist Lars Finberg ( A Frames, Thee Oh Sees), the band currently consists of Finberg, alongside Dave Hernandez (guitar), Drew Church (bass) and Kaanan Tupper (drums). To date, the band has released nine studio albums, two EPs and a number of singles, the latter often split with other artists. Biography The Intelligence was formed by Lars Finberg. Since the late 1990s Finberg played in other bands with vocalist/guitarist Erin Sullivan, and bassist Min Yee (the Dipers, Unnatural Helpers). A-Frames and the Intelligence started in 1999. Both acts released singles on Dragnet Records, the indie label Finberg runs with A-Frames members Erin Sullivan and Min Yee. The Intelligence's first release was a 5 track 7-inch EP entitled ''Girlfriends and Boyfriends'' on Dragnet Records in 2000. Mike Donovan (musician)
Mike Donovan (born 6 October 1971) is an American, San Francisco, California based musician, best known as the guitarist and singer of Sic Alps (2004-2013). He has also released music by other San Francisco musicians with his Dial Records and Folding Cassettes labels. Donovan is a veteran of several other bands. He was a member of The Ropers, The Church Steps with Chris Douglas, NAM, Big Techno Werewolves, Sounds of the Barbary Coast and Yikes. In October 2013, he released his solo debut ''Wot'' on Drag City. In May 2015, Donovan formed the San Francisco lo-fi supergroup The Peacers, releasing a self-titled debut on July 17, 2015. Dave Hernandez
Dave Hernandez (born September 20, 1970, Guadalajara, Mexico) is a Mexican guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is best known as a former member of the American indie rock band The Shins, with whom he recorded four studio albums. Hernandez is currently the guitarist of the post-punk band The Intelligence, and is the former vocalist and guitarist of the punk band Scared of Chaka. Hernandez met Shins frontman James Mercer when both lived in Albuquerque playing in underground bands in the early/mid 1990s. Hernandez's punk band Scared of Chaka and Mercer's indie pop band Flake were both part of the thriving Albuquerque independent rock scene that spawned bands like The Drags, The Rondelles, and Henrys Dress. Garage rock (sometimes called garage punk or 60s punk) is a raw and energetic style of rock and roll that flourished in the mid-1960s, most notably in the United States and Canada, and has experienced a series of subsequent revivals. The style is characterized by basic chord structures played on electric guitars and other instruments, sometimes distorted through a fuzzbox, as well as often unsophisticated and occasionally aggressive lyrics and delivery. Denton, Texas
Denton is a city in and the county seat of Denton County, Texas, United States. With a population of 139,869 as of 2020, it is the 27th-most populous city in Texas, the 197th-most populous city in the United States, and the 12th-most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Stooges
The Stooges, originally billed as the Psychedelic Stooges, also known as Iggy and the Stooges, was an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander. Initially playing a raw, primitive style of rock and roll, the band sold few records in their original incarnation and gained a reputation for their confrontational performances, which often involved acts of self-mutilation by Iggy Pop. Devo (, originally ) is an American rock band from Akron, Ohio, formed in 1973. Their classic line-up consisted of two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs (Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers. The band had a No. 14 ''Billboard'' chart hit in 1980 with the single " Whip It", the song that gave the band mainstream popularity. Devo's music and visual presentation (including stage shows and costumes) mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor and mordantly satirical social commentary.
