The British Soap Award for Villain of the Year is an award presented annually by the British Soap Awards. Unlike the awards for Best Actress, Best Actor and Best British Soap, the award is voted for by a panel, like the award for Best Newcomer. ''Coronation Street'' is the most awarded soap in the category, with eight wins. ''Emmerdale'' is the only current soap not to have won a Villain of the Year award, while ''Family Affairs'' (1997–2005) never won the accolade. '' Coronation Street'' is a British soap opera first broadcast on 9 December 1960. The following is a list of characters introduced in 2019, by order of first appearance. Jayne Claire King (born Jayne Claire Seed; 10 January 1962) is an English actress. She is known for her roles as Kim Tate in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale'' and Karen Betts in '' Bad Girls''. Janine Carter (also Butcher, Evans and Malloy) is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera '' EastEnders'', introduced in 1989. The character was played by Rebecca Michael from 1989 to 1993, Alexia Demetriou from 1993 to 1996, and Charlie Brooks from 1999 onwards. Brooks initially departed on 7 May 2004. Brian Capron (born 11 February 1947) is an English actor who trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He is best known for his role as serial killer, Richard Hillman, in the long-running ITV soap opera, ''Coronation Street'', from 2001 to 2003.
