Villages in Bandra, Mumbai are in the Western Suburbs of Mumbai, part of what has been called the Queen of Suburbs of Mumbai (once known as Bombay). Home to a number of personalities from the film industry as well as cricket, it is one of the most affluent suburbs of Mumbai. The old villages of Bandra are hidden behind the tall buildings and shopping malls of the area. The old villages pakhadis of Bandra, originally twenty-four of them, were one of the earliest of settlements in Bandra. Bandra
Bandra (Indian English, [bæːɳɖɾa]) also known as Vandre (Help:IPA/Marathi, [ʋaːn̪d̪ɾe]) is an upscale coastal suburb located in Mumbai (Bombay) area of the Konkan division, Maharashtra, India. The suburb is located to the immediate north of River Mithi, which separates Bandra from Mumbai City district. Originally, Bandra was a larger area, whence the present day Khar, Mumbai, Khar neighbourhood was also a part of it. Almost a century ago, it was considered too large a suburb to be served by one railway station. Therefore, the Khar Road railway station was established in 1924, to give the northern part of Bandra closer access to the Western Railway (India), Western Railway line. This eventually led to Khar, Mumbai, Khar being considered a separate suburb. But to this day, the two adjoined suburbs make up one homogeneous zone. Bandstand Promenade
The Bandstand Promenade, also known as Bandra Bandstand is a 1.2 kilometer long walkway along the sea on the western coast of Mumbai, India in the neighborhood of Bandra. It is simultaneously a popular hangout spot, a jogging track and a park. Towards the Land's End side of the promenade is an amphitheater. It serves as a venue for the Mumbai Festival, Celebrate Bandra and other events including concerts, classical dance and other performances. The 'Artist's Court' is another performance venue built into the promenade that witnesses public Jam sessions on Sundays. Other attractions Bandra fort Bandra Fort is located right at the end of road adjacent to Hotel Taj Land's End. Bandra Talao
Bandra Talao locally referred to as Swami Vivekanand Talao is a small lake located in Bandra, Mumbai. The lake was formerly known as Lotus Tank and is a Grade II heritage structure. The lake was also called "Motha Sarovar" and was constructed by a rich Konkani Muslim of Navpada (also spelt Naupada or Naopara), an adjoining village. It is spread across 7.5 acres. Carter Road Promenade
The Carter Road Promenade is a 1.25 kilometre-long walkway along the sea on the western coast of Mumbai, India. This promenade was opened up to the public in January 2002. The promenade has been managed by the Bandra West Residents' Association. The Carter Road Promenade extends up to Khar Danda. In May 2008, Carter Road was renamed as Sangeet Samrat Naushad Ali Marg, in the memory of Naushad Ali, a music director. Geography Carter Road has a sea-facing location connecting Khar Danda in the north with Turner Road, Bandra in the south. Officially the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount Bandra, colloquially known as Mount Bandra and Mount St Mary Church, is a basilica of the Catholic Church in India located at Bandra in Bombay (Mumbai). John Fryer (FRS)
John Fryer FRS (circa 1650 – 31 March 1733) was an English doctor and Fellow of the Royal Society, now best remembered for his descriptions of travel in Persia and East India. Life Fryer was the oldest son of William Fryer of London. On 13 July 1664, he matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge, from which he graduated as a Bachelor of Medicine in 1671, then becoming a Fellow-Commoner at Pembroke College, Cambridge on 23 July the same year. In 1672 he was appointed as a surgeon for the British East India Company, to be paid "50s. per month to commence at his arriveall", and on 9 December 1672 sailed from Gravesend on the Unity. Western Suburbs (Mumbai)
The Western Suburbs is the western precinct of the city of Mumbai, India. The Western Suburbs consist of Andheri, Bandra, Bhayander, Borivali, Dahisar, Goregaon, Jogeshwari, Juhu, Kandivali, Khar, Malad, Mira Road, Santacruz and Vile Parle. Geographically, the Western Suburbs lie at the western part of Salsette Island, is a continuous urban sprawl spanning the areas from Bandra to Bhayander, which is separated by the Vasai Creek from Vasai-Virar city and Mithi River from Mumbai city district (Churchgate to Mahim). Salsette Island
Salsette Island is an island in Konkan division of the state of Maharashtra on India's west coast.
