Villagers Worcester Rugby Football Club is an amateur rugby union club based in Worcester, South Africa. They are a member of the Boland Rugby Union and can provide players to the provincial team and the URC Rugby team. Origins The club was founded in 1883 in Worcester and is one of the oldest rugby clubs in South Africa and the oldest from a formerly disadvantaged community. Achievements * 2012: Villagers Worcester's sevens team won the Boland Union Provincial sevens tournament. 2013 SARU Community Cup
The 2013 SARU Community Cup (known as the ''2013 Cell C Community Cup'' for sponsorship reasons) was the first season of the SARU Community Cup competition and was contested from 16 February to 1 April 2013. The tournament is the top competition for non-university rugby union clubs in South Africa. Competition Format Twenty teams qualified for the Community Cup from the club leagues of the fourteen provincial unions in South Africa. The league winners all qualified, as well as six wildcard teams chosen by SARU. The format of the Community Cup was exactly the same as the Rugby World Cup. The teams were divided into four pools, each containing five teams each. They would then play four pool games, playing other teams in their respective pools once each. Griquas (rugby)
Griquas (known as the Windhoek Draught Griquas for sponsorship reasons since April 2022) are a South African rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup tournament. Their home ground is Griqua Park in Kimberley and they draw their players mostly from Northern Cape Province. They have won the Currie Cup three times – in 1899, 1911 and 1970 – and the Vodacom Cup a joint-record five times. History The rugby team was established in 1886 in the then British colony of Griqualand West. Five years later, during the 1891 British Lions tour to South Africa, Griqualand West played the British Lions in Kimberley. Although they lost 3–0, the British presented the team with the Currie Cup, as they thought that Griqualand West produced the best performance out of the provincial games on their tour. The 2015 SARU Community Cup (known as the ''2015 Cell C Community Cup'' for sponsorship reasons) will be the third season of the SARU Community Cup competition. The qualification to the tournament will take place in 2014, while the competition proper will be contested in 2015.
