Vilar De Mouros Festival
The Vilar de Mouros Festival, currently named EDP Vilar de Mouros for sponsorship reasons, is a music festival that takes place in Vilar de Mouros, Caminha, Viana do Castelo district in northwestern Portugal. It is the oldest rock festival in Portugal and in the Iberian Peninsula. Its 1971 edition, the first as a rock festival, has been called the "Portuguese Woodstock". Since 2016, it is organized by the event company Surprise & Expectation. History Beginnings as a folk festival (1965-1968) The Vilar de Mouros Festival was created in 1965 as an event for traditional folk music from the Alto Minho and Galicia regions. It was founded by António Barge, a medical doctor born and raised in Vilar de Mouros. In the following two years, the festival was organized annually and kept its focus on traditional folk music. Anathema (band)
Anathema were an English rock band from Liverpool. The group was formed in 1990 by Vincent and Daniel Cavanagh, bassist Jamie Cavanagh, drummer/keyboardist John Douglas, and vocalist Darren White. The band maintained an active concert schedule throughout their career. They first toured in 1992 with the American death metal band Cannibal Corpse; they since performed throughout Europe, the United States, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Turkey. The Young Gods
The Young Gods are a Swiss industrial rock band from Fribourg, formed in 1985. The original lineup of the band featured singer Franz Treichler, sampler player Cesare Pizzi and drummer Frank Bagnoud. For most of their history, the band maintained a trio format with a singer, a sampler player and a drummer, albeit with multiple line-up changes. Treichler is the band's sole consistent member; the current line-up also features Pizzi and drummer Bernard Trontin. During their career, the band have extensively collaborated with producer Roli Mosimann. The band's music is largely based on sampling and sound manipulation; the tracks are constructed from various samples, such as distorted guitar riffs and string sections. The Stone Roses
The Stone Roses were an English Rock music, rock band formed in Manchester in 1983. One of the pioneering groups of the Madchester movement in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band's classic and most prominent lineup consisted of vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Mani (musician), Mani and drummer Reni (musician), Reni. The Stranglers
The Stranglers are an English rock band who emerged via the punk rock scene. Scoring 23 UK top 40 singles and 19 UK top 40 albums to date in a career spanning five decades, the Stranglers are one of the longest-surviving bands to have originated in the UK punk scene. Estado Novo (Portugal)
The ''Estado Novo'' (, lit. "New State") was the corporatist Portuguese state installed in 1933. It evolved from the ''Ditadura Nacional'' ("National Dictatorship") formed after the ''coup d'état'' of 28 May 1926 against the democratic but unstable First Republic. The International and State Defense Police ( pt, Polícia Internacional e de Defesa do Estado; PIDE) was a Portuguese security agency that existed during the '' Estado Novo'' regime of António de Oliveira Salazar. Formally, the main roles of the PIDE were the border, immigration and emigration control and internal and external State security. Over time, it came to be known for its secret police activities. The agency that would later become the PIDE was established by the Decree-Law 22992 of August 1933, as the State Surveillance and Defense Police (Polícia de Vigilância e Defesa do Estado) or PVDE. It resulted from the merger of two former agencies, the Portuguese International Police and the Political and Social Defense Police. José Albano Cid de Ferreira Tavares (born 4 February 1942) is a Portuguese singer, composer and record producer. Duo Ouro Negro
Duo Ouro Negro (also known as The Black Gold) was a kwela music group consisting of Raúl Indipwo and Milo MacMahon, formed in 1959. The music group was first a trio, but when Jose Alves Monteiro left, the band became a duo. Personal History Milo MacMahon (1938-1985) whose full name is Emílio Vítor Caldeira MacMahon de Vitória Pereira was born in Sá da Bandeira, Angola on May 3 1938. His early school years were attended at Liceu de Sá da Bandeira, moving later to Nova Lisboa and later to the Metropolis attending Escola de Regentes Agrícolas de Coimbra which he did not complete.
