Viggiù
Viggiù (; lmo, Vigiǘu, label= Varesino ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located about northwest of Milan and about northeast of Varese, on the border with Switzerland. Viggiù borders the following municipalities: Arcisate, Besano, Bisuschio, Cantello, Clivio, Meride (Switzerland), Saltrio. Main sights The church of Santo Stefano, in Romanesque style, was erected at the limit of a crown of houses, which constituted a large and high amphitheater facing the Valceresio area. The church was enlarged in the 15th century to reach its current size, three wide aisles, divided into four bays, separated by six columns and surmounted by capitals. Sandy Cane
Sandra "Sandy" Maria Cane (born July 28, 1961, in Springfield, Massachusetts) is an Italian politician who was the former mayor of Viggiù ''comune''. Cane's father is African American and her mother is Italian, a native of Viggiù. After her parents' divorce in 1971, Cane moved to her mother's hometown. Holding a degree in foreign languages, she started to work in tourism sector and became the director of a hotel. She is also well-versed in the local Western Lombard dialect (''dialetto bosino''). Cane became Lega Nord's candidate for Viggiù mayor in June 2009 elections. She was elected the first female non-white mayor of Italy after winning about 30% of the votes. Gianni Danzi (January 25, 1940 – October 2, 2007) was an Italian Catholic Archbishop of the Territorial Prelature of Loreto. He was born in Viggiù, Varese province, Italy. Danzi died in October 2007 at the age of 67 at his parents' house in Barasso after a long fight with cancer. Gianni Danzi was born in Viggiù on 25 January 1940.
