The Vietnam national under-23 and Olympic football team ( vi, Đội tuyển Bóng đá U-23 và Olympic Quốc gia Việt Nam) represents Vietnam in international football tournaments at the under-22 and under-23 age level. History Early years and downfall The team is considered to be the feeder team for the Vietnam national football team. During the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines, a betting and match-fixing scandal involving the team former captain Lê Quốc Vượng shocked the team reputation. The scandal destroyed several of the team players careers, including striker Phạm Văn Quyến and shattered Vietnamese public image towards the youth team to which many of their football fans shied away from the sport with the number of football attendance also decrease dramatically. Vietnam Football Federation
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF, vi, Liên đoàn Bóng đá Việt Nam) is the governing body of football in Vietnam. It is responsible for the all Vietnam teams of football, futsal and beach soccer as well as national competitions. VFF is currently a member of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). Football at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games were held across three venues in the Philippines; the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan, Laguna, and the City of Imus Grandstand, Imus for the men's tournament. The women's tournament was held in Manila and Biñan. Vietnam won gold in both men's and women's tournaments, beating Indonesia and Thailand respectively. The 2019 Southeast Asian Games also witnessed surprisingly amazing performances of Cambodia football. 2022 AFF U-23 Championship
The 2022 AFF U-23 Championship was the 3rd edition of the AFF U-23 Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The tournament was held from 14 to 26 February in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Indonesia were the defending champions, having won the 2019 edition. The tournament was held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia and Myanmar withdrew from the tournament after several of their players tested positive for COVID-19. Vietnam won the tournament for the first time after beating Thailand 1–0 in the final. 2019 AFF U-22 Youth Championship
The 2019 AFF U-22 Youth Championship or AFF U-22 LG Cup 2019 was the 2nd edition of the AFF U-22 Youth Championship organised by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). Indonesia won the tournament after defeating Thailand 2–1 in the final. The tournament was held from 17 to 26 February in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This was its first as an under-22 tournament, with the previous edition being an under-23 tournament. 2005 AFF U-23 Youth Championship winners Thailand were the defending champions, as there was no competition from 2006 to 2018 and the 2011 edition was cancelled. The AFF U-23 Championship is an international football competition contested by the national under-23 teams of the member nations of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The inaugural edition was held in 2005. Background In 2005, the first edition was held in Bangkok, Thailand as the AFF U-23 Youth Championship. A second edition of the tournament was set to take place in Palembang, Indonesia between 16 and 26 July 2011 but was cancelled due to the main stadium of Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, which was to be used for the tournament, still being under renovation.
