Video Hits (Canadian TV Series)
''Video Hits'' was a Canadian music video program broadcast nationally on CBC Television from 1984 to 1993. Created by producer Sandra Faire, ''Video Hits'' aired weekday afternoons, and featured promotional music videos of the day's top hit songs from Canadian and international artists, along with artist interviews. The show's original host was Samantha Taylor. A similar music video show, '' Good Rockin' Tonite'', also aired on CBC Television on Friday nights concurrently with ''Video Hits''. History ''Video Hits'' evolved from a CBC Radio show called ''Coming Attractions''. Produced (and later brought to television) by Sandra Faire in Toronto, ''Coming Attractions'' was an entertainment news magazine that ran five days a week. Hosts Patricia White and Bob Karstens presented news from the worlds of music, video, art, theatre, film, TV and fashion. Lost television broadcasts are mostly those early television programs which cannot be accounted for in studio archives (or in personal archives) usually because of deliberate destruction or neglect. Common reasons for loss A significant proportion of early television programming was never recorded in the first place. Early broadcasting in all genres was live and sometimes performed repeatedly. Due to there being no means to record the broadcast or, later, because the content itself was thought to have little monetary or historical value it was not deemed necessary to save it. In the United Kingdom, early programming was lost due to contractual demands by the actors' union to limit the rescreening of performances. Apart from Phonovision experiments by John Logie Baird, and some 280 rolls of 35mm film containing some of Paul Nipkow television station broadcasts, no recordings of transmissions from 1939 or earlier are known to exist. The ''Ottawa Citizen'' is an English-language daily newspaper owned by Postmedia Network in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. CILQ-FM (107.1 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, known as ''Q107''. The station broadcasts a mainstream rock format and is owned by Corus Entertainment. Much (an abbreviation for its full name MuchMusic) is a Canadian English language specialty channel owned by BCE Inc. through its Bell Media subsidiary that airs programming aimed at teenagers and young adults. MuchMusic launched on August 31, 1984, under the ownership of CHUM Limited, and was originally focused on music programming, including blocks of music videos and original series focusing on Canadian musicians.
