London Metropolitan Cross Country League
The Metropolitan League, also referred to as the Met League, is a cross country running league in South East England formed of clubs from around London and the home counties. Formed in 1966, it is one of the oldest leagues in the country. There are five league fixtures held in various locations between October and February. Male and female athletes aged 11 upwards compete at each fixture and there are six races which are categorised as * under 11s, * under 13s, * combined under 15s and under 17s, and * seniors and veterans. Mile End Stadium, also known as the East London Stadium, is a multi-sports stadium in Mile End and situated in the park of the same name, East London, England. The stadium comprises an athletics stadium and a number of floodlit Astroturf football pitches, tennis and netball courts. The new sports complex with a 25m swimming pool was refurbished in 2019. Mile End is a district of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in the East End of London, England, east-northeast of Charing Cross. Victoria Park (known colloquially as Vicky Park or the People's Park) is a park in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London, England. It is the largest park in Tower Hamlets and one of London's most visited green spaces with approximately 9 million visitors every year. The park spans of open space and opened to the public in 1845. Peirresha Alexandra Shakes-Drayton (born 21 December 1988) is a British retired track and field athlete. After specialising in the 400 metres hurdles in the early part of her career, a knee injury at the 2013 World Championships forced Shakes-Drayton to concentrate on the 400 metres on her return to athletics. She is the 2013 European Indoor Champion in the 400 metres and won a 2012 World Indoor Championship gold medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay. Rikki Fifton (born 17 June 1985 in London) is a British sprinter who mainly specialises in the 200 metres, but occasionally competes in 100 metres, 400 metres, and relay events. Before becoming involved in athletics, Fifton was an avid kick boxer. He currently runs for the Newham and Essex Beagles and is studying for a PE and Sociology degree at Loughborough University. He made his first international junior appearance at the 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships, finishing fourth in the 200 m final. The following year he attended the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics and again reached the final, this time finishing in sixth place. His most accomplished performance to date on the senior athletics circuit is getting to the semi-finals of the European Championships in Athletics in 2006 and winning the 200 m at the national indoor championships in 2007.
