The Vice-Prime Minister of Mauritius (french: Vice-Premier Ministre) is an honorary title usually carried by up to two incumbent Ministers of the Government of Mauritius, that does not exist separately under the Constitution of Mauritius. There is currently two Vice-Prime Minister of Mauritius, namely Leela Devi Dookhun and Mohammad Anwar Husnoo. They became Vice-Prime Minister on 12 November 2019 Overview In 2005, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam who was then the Prime Minister proposed a motion at the National Assembly to create offices for two Vice Prime Ministers. As the Constitution already provides an office of Deputy Prime Minister, the National Assembly voted against the bill. However they recognised that two cabinet ministers, who are important in hierarchy but are still not as powerful as the Deputy Prime Minister, shall be officially known as Vice-Prime Minister (VPM). The national flag of Mauritius, also known as the Four Bands and ''Les Quatre Bandes'' ( French for "the four bands"), was adopted upon independence, March 12, 1968. It consists of four horizontal bands of equal width, coloured (from top to bottom) red, blue, yellow, and green. The flag was recorded at the College of Arms in London on 9 January 1968. The Militant Socialist Movement (french: Mouvement Socialiste Militant; abbreviated MSM) is a centre-left political party in Mauritius. It is the largest single political party in the National Assembly of Mauritius, winning 42 of the 69 seats in the 2019 general elections. It also holds the largest number of seats in all city/town councils through the country with 60 councilors out of 120. 2010 Mauritian General Election
General elections were held in Mauritius on 5 May 2010. The coalition comprising Mauritius Labour Party under Navin Ramgoolam, the Militant Socialist Movement under Pravind Jugnauth and the Mauritian Social Democrat Party under Xavier Luc Duval, won a majority with 41 seats in the parliament. The Mauritian Militant Movement-led coalition under Paul Berenger finished second with 18 seats. The Mauritian Solidarity Front won one seat and the Rodrigues Movement won the two remaining seats.
