Vice-president Of Zambia
The vice-president of Zambia is the second highest position in the executive branch of the Republic of Zambia. The vice-president was previously appointed by the president before the amendment of the Constitution in 2016. Under the amended Constitution, when the president dies, resigns or is removed from office, the vice-president automatically assumes the presidency, unlike when the Constitution demanded holding of presidential by-election within 90 days. This is so because now every presidential candidate shall pick a vice-presidential running mate and the two will share the vote meaning voting for a president is an automatic vote for the vice-president. The vice-president also heads the Office of the Vice-President, a government ministry, and is also automatically a member of the National Assembly. Mutale Nalumango
W.K. Mutale Nalumango (born 1 January 1955) is an educator and politician who is the 14th and current vice president of Zambia, the second woman to hold the position. She previously served as vice-president of the Secondary Schools’ Teachers Union of Zambia before resigning to begin her political career in 2001. She first became a member of the National Assembly in 2001 as a member of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, representing the Kaputa Constituency. She later served as deputy minister of information and deputy speaker in parliament, the first woman to hold that position. Career Mutale, born in 1955, is a teacher by profession. Christon Tembo
Lt. Gen. Christon Tembo (1944 – 6 March 2009) was a Zambian politician and army commander. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 1996 and the sixth vice-president of Zambia from 1997 to 2001. He ran for president in the December 2001 election and took third place, with about 13% of the vote. In 1989, he and others were charged with plotting to overthrow President Kenneth Kaunda, which was judged as an act of treason worthy of the death penalty. He was defended in court successfully by attorney Levy Mwanawasa, who was elected as President in 2002. He retired from military service in 1990 and joined the Movement for Multiparty Democracy as vice-president of the party under Frederick Chiluba, who became President in 1991. Guy Lindsay Scott (born 1 June 1944) is a Zambian politician, who served as acting President of Zambia from 2014 to 2015, and was the Vice President from 2011 to 2014. Scott became acting President upon Michael Sata's death in office on 28 October 2014. This made him the first Head of State of European descent in Africa since F. W. de Klerk in the 1990s, and the first-ever under a democratic Government. Rupiah Banda
Rupiah Bwezani Banda (19 February 1937 – 11 March 2022) was a Zambian politician who served as the fourth president of Zambia from 2008 to 2011, taking over from Levy Mwanawasa, who died as the sitting president. Banda was an active participant in politics from early in the presidency of Kenneth Kaunda, during which time he held several diplomatic posts. In October 2006, he was appointed the vice-president by Mwanawasa. After Mwanawasa suffered a stroke in June 2008 and died later that year, he became acting president. Lupando Mwape ( – 21 January 2019) was a Zambian politician. He served as the ninth vice-president of Zambia from 2004 to 2006 under President Levy Mwanawasa, who indicated that, had Mwape not been defeated in the 2006 parliamentary election, he would almost certainly have been re-appointed Vice-President.
