Vianna Da Motta International Music Competition
The Vianna da Motta International Music Competition was first constituted in 1957 in Lisbon in honor of José Vianna da Motta by his disciple Sequeira Costa, who remains its president; this inaugural edition was won by Naum Shtarkman. The competition, a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, has been held regularly since 1964. Awards While mainly a piano competition, two violin editions have been held. In 1973 Ida Kavafian and Gerardo Ribeiro shared the 1st prize. José Vianna Da Motta
José Vianna da Motta (modern spelling as 'Viana da Mota') (22 April 18681 June 1948) was a Portuguese pianist, teacher, and composer. He was one of the last pupils of Franz Liszt. The José Vianna da Motta Music Competition was founded in 1957 in his honor. Life José Vianna da Motta was born on São Tomé Island, a Portuguese territory at the time where his father, also a great amateur musician, had opened a pharmacy. Moving with his family to Continental Portugal, he settled in Colares, near Sintra, where he soon showed his unusual skills in music, and in playing and composing works for the piano. In Berlin he had lessons from Xaver Scharwenka and Philipp Scharwenka before studying with Franz Liszt at Weimar in 1885 and with Hans von Bülow two years later. Florent Boffard
Florent Boffard (born in 1964) is a French classical pianist and pedagogue. Biography Boffard received his first musical training at the Conservatoire National de Région de Lyon. In 1976, he was a pupil of Yvonne Loriod's piano class at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he obtained a first prize. He completed his piano studies with Germaine Mounier. He also studied chamber music with Geneviève Joy. From 1988 to 1999, he was a member of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, with whom he created numerous works by contemporary composers such as Franco Donatoni, György Ligeti, Klaus Huber, Philippe Fénelon and Michael Jarrell. Ilya Rashkovskiy (born 17 November 1984, in Irkutsk) is a Russian pianist. Education Ilya Rashkovskiy debuted with the Irkutsk Chamber Orchestra at the age of eight. He studied from 1993 to 2000 at the Novosibirsk Special School of Music with Prof. M. Lebenzon, from 2000 to 2009 at the Musikhochschule Hannover with Prof. V. Yung Wook Yoo (born December 27, 1977) is a South Korean pianist, winner of the Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition. Biography Born in Seoul on December 27, 1977, Yoo started studying piano in South Korea and then moved to the United States to study at Juilliard Pre-College and then at the college section under Martin Canin and later with Jerome Lowenthal. Richard Raymond (born 1965 in Campbellton, New Brunswick) is a Canadian pianist. He has performed with the Toronto and Montreal Symphony Orchestras, but is most known for his solo chamber music recitals and recordings. Education Raymond studied with Leon Fleisher, Marc Durand, John Perry, Lise Boucher and Antoine Reboulot. Christian Seibert (born 1975) is a German classical pianist who recorded the complete piano works by composers such as Krzysztof Meyer. He founded the Kleist Music School in Frankfurt (Oder).
