Veshkayma Kindergarten Shooting
On 26 April 2022, three people were killed in a school shooting at a kindergarten in Veshkayma, Ulyanovsk Oblast, Russia. Shooting The attack occurred after 26-year-old Ruslan Akhtyamov entered the Ryabinka kindergarten with an IZh-27 double-barreled shotgun, shooting dead a staff member who tried to stop the attack. Walking into a classroom during the children's naptime, he opened fire, killing two small children, whom RIA Novosti said had been born in 2016 and 2018. Another staff member was wounded. After the shooting, Akhtyamov then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. The National Guard of Russia said that the firearm used by the perpetrator was obtained under the name of another person. Veshkayma (urban Locality)
Veshkayma (russian: Вешка́йма) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Veshkaymsky District of Ulyanovsk Oblast, Russia. Population: History The village of Veshkaima, as the Veshkaima railway station on the Inza-Simbirsk branch of the Moscow-Kazan railway, appeared in 1898. It was named after the river or the village of the same name about seven kilometers to the northwest. The original village was established in the second half of the 17th century as a fortified settlement along the Karsun-Simbirsk fortification line. Until the beginning of the 20th century, there were no more than 20 people who served the station. In 1913, 20 people lived in 4 courtyards at the Veshkayma station. Izhevsk School Shooting
On 26 September 2022, a mass shooting occurred at a school in Izhevsk, Udmurtia, in west-central Russia. Eighteen people were killed and 23 others were wounded before the gunman, identified as Artem Kazantsev, committed suicide. Events The mass shooting occurred at School No. 88 () in Izhevsk, Udmurtia, Russia at around 10:52 AM. Armed with two pistols and a large supply of ammunition, the gunman, Artem Kazantsev, entered the school and opened fire on several classrooms. Throughout the shooting, he burst through several classrooms and indiscriminately fired on those inside. The gunman then entered an empty classroom and shot himself in the head. Perm State University Shooting
On 20 September 2021, a mass shooting occurred at Perm State University, in the city of Perm, Perm Krai, Russia. Six people were killed and 47 others were injured. The attacker, identified as 18-year-old Timur Bekmansurov, was arrested after being wounded by police. Background The shooting occurred roughly four months after another school shooting in Kazan, Russia, in which nine people were killed. In the aftermath of that shooting, the legal age to buy a gun in Russia was increased from 18 to 21, but the law was not yet in effect at the time of the Perm shooting. Kazan School Shooting
On 11 May 2021, a school shooting occurred in Kazan, Tatarstan, in the western part of Russia, and a bomb was detonated. Nine people (seven 8th-grade students and two teachers) were murdered, and 23 others were injured. The 19-year-old shooter, Ilnaz Galyaviev, was identified as a former student. He pleaded guilty to the murder of two or more persons on 12 May and was sentenced to life imprisonment in April 2023.
