Vermont Catamounts Football
The Vermont Catamounts football program was the intercollegiate American football team for the University of Vermont located in Burlington, Vermont. The team competed in the NCAA Division I and were members of the Yankee Conference. The school's first football team was fielded in 1886. The football program was discontinued at the conclusion of the 1974 season. Vermont fields a team at the club football level, in a conference that also uses the Yankee Conference name. History The first intercollegiate game in the state of Vermont happened on November 6, 1886, between Dartmouth and Vermont in Burlington. Dartmouth won 91 to 0. Vermont reached a level of success after coach "Dud" Drake in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. The 1907 team fought Dartmouth to a scoreless tie, and the 1908 team gave Cornell a scare. Centennial Field
Centennial Field is the name of the baseball stadium at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, and is the home of the Vermont Lake Monsters. Beyond the left-field fence is the former home of the University of Vermont's men's and women's soccer teams, which also served as home field for its men's and women's lacrosse teams, and its college football team (1900–1974). History The facility takes its name, Centennial Field, from the fact that the land on which it was built was dedicated to its current purpose on July 6, 1904, at the conclusion of the three-day celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first graduating class of the University of Vermont (UVM). Its first baseball game was on April 17, 1906, with UVM's 10–4 victory over the University of Maine. Larry Gardner was the first batter for UVM. Connecticut Huskies Football
The UConn Huskies football team is a college football team that represents the University of Connecticut in the sport of American football. The team competes in NCAA Division I FBS as an Independent. Connecticut first fielded a team in 1896, and participated in Division I-AA until 1999. The Huskies began their two-year Division I-A transition period in 2000, and became a full-fledged Division I-A team in 2002. From 2000 to 2003 the team played as an independent. The school's football team then joined the conference of its other sport teams, the Big East (later named the American Athletic Conference (the American) in 2013), taking effect in 2004, through 2019. In 2019, the UConn football team left the American to again play as an independent, as the school's current primary conference, the current Big East, does not sponsor the sport. Edward Albert Herr (January 4, 1883 – March 18, 1950) was an American player and head coach of college football, and a physician. Biography Herr was a 1906 graduate of Dartmouth College, where he played football for four years as a halfback and end. He then served as head coach of the New Hampshire football team in 1906 and 1907, and for the Vermont football team in 1908. In his three seasons as a head coach, Herr compiled an overall 6–13–6 record, for a winning percentage. In August 1906, Herr saved two women from drowning following a canoe accident in Squam Lake in New Hampshire. Harry Howard Cloudman
Harry Howard Cloudman (October 22, 1877 – December 11, 1950) was an American physician, track and field athlete, and coach of American football. He served as the head football coach at Bowdoin College in 1901 and the University of Vermont from 1902 to 1904. Cloudman ran track at Bowdoin before graduating in 1901. He set a Maine state record for the 100-yard dash in 1899 at an intercollegiate meet in Waterville. Cloudman earned a medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine—now known as the Robert Larner College of Medicine—in 1905.
