Verde River Bridge
The Verde River Bridge near Paulden, Arizona, was built in 1922. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It is a filled spandrel arch bridge with a span.P. E-13 It is located on Sullivan Lake Rd., what is now labelled on maps as N. Old Highway 89., about half a mile from the current crossing of Verde River by Arizona State Route 89. An arch bridge is a bridge with abutments at each end shaped as a curved arch. Arch bridges work by transferring the weight of the bridge and its loads partially into a horizontal thrust restrained by the abutments at either side. Paulden is a census designated place (CDP) in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. The population was 5,231 at the 2010 census. Geography Paulden is located at (34.900785, -112.484205). Perkinsville Bridge
The Perkinsville Bridge over the Verde River was established in 1936 when it was moved from the San Carlos Indian Reservation over the Gila River. The current structure was constructed from spans of the San Carlos Bridge which was built in 1913 and then rebuilt in 1921 after damage due to flooding. Verde River Sheep Bridge
The Verde River Sheep Bridge, also known as the Red Point Sheep Bridge, is a suspension bridge which crosses the Verde River in Arizona. Constructed primarily to allow sheep to be driven between grazing ranges on either side of the river. Building started in 1943 and was completed in 1944. Sheep drives stopped in 1978. The bridge was closed in 1987 and largely demolished in 1988. A replica bridge was constructed by the U.S. Forest Service in 1989 to allow hikers access to the Mazatzal Wilderness in Tonto National Forest. The original west suspension tower still remains alongside the replica bridge. History Dr. R. O. Raymond of the Flagstaff Sheep Company owned a winter sheep allotment on the east side of the Verde River and a summer allotment on the west side. Access between the sides was difficult, and high water conditions could make it hazardous to ford the river.
