''Variety Is the Spice of Life'' (Swedish: ''Ombyte förnöjer'') is a 1939 Swedish comedy film directed by Gustaf Molander and starring Tutta Rolf, Per Aabel and Elsa Burnett.Larsson & Marklund p.115 The film's sets were designed by Arne Åkermark. It was based on a play which was also turned into a German film ''Marriage in Small Doses'' the same year. Synopsis When her composer husband loses interest in her, an ordinary housewife turns into a seductive vamp to try and win back his affections. Gustaf Molander
Gustaf Harald August Molander (18 November 1888 – 19 June 1973) was a Sweden, Swedish actor and film director. His parents were director Harald Molander, Sr. (1858–1900) and singer and actress Lydia Molander, ''née'' Wessler, and his brother was the director Olof Molander (1892–1966). He was the father of director and producer Harald Molander from his first marriage to actress Karin Molander and father to actor Jan Molander from his second marriage to Elsa Fahlberg (1892–1977). Gustaf Molander was born in Helsinki, Helsingfors (now Helsinki) in the Grand Duchy of Finland (in the Russian Empire), where his father was working at the Swedish Theatre. He studied in the school of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm 1907–1909, acted at the Swedish theatre in Helsingfors 1909–1913, and then at the Royal Dramatic Theatre from 1913 to 1926. Ernst Olof Eklund (6 August 1882 – 3 August 1971) was a Swedish film actor and theatre director. He appeared in 40 films between 1914 and 1962 and was also the director of six different theatres. Biography Eklund was born at Östervåla in Uppsala County, Sweden. He began playing amateur theater in Gävle. During his career he was director of several theaters: Blancheteatern 1917–1926, Comediteatern 1923–1938, Konserthusteatern 1926–1927, Skansenteatern 1934–1940, Oscarsteatern 1938–1941 and Lisebergsteatern in Gothenburg 1947–1956.
