Western Armenian
Western Armenian ( Classical spelling: , ) is one of the two standardized forms of Modern Armenian, the other being Eastern Armenian. It is based mainly on the Istanbul Armenian dialect, as opposed to Eastern Armenian, which is mainly based on the Yerevan Armenian dialect. Until the early 20th century, various Western Armenian dialects were also spoken in the Ottoman Empire, especially in the eastern regions historically populated by Armenians known as Western Armenia. The spoken or dialectal varieties of Western Armenian currently in use include Homshetsi, spoken by the Hemshin peoples; the dialects of Armenians of Kessab, Latakia and Jisr al-Shughur of Syria, Anjar of Lebanon, and Istanbul and Vakıflı, of Turkey (part of the "Sueidia" dialect). Norayr Vardanyan
Norayr (Norik) Vardanyan ( hy, Նորայր Վարդանյան, born 15 May 1987 in Leninakan, Armenian SSR) is an Armenian and American weightlifter. Norayr is the son of legendary Soviet weightlifter Yurik Vardanyan (1956-2018). Vardanian initially won the bronze medal in the 94 kg class at the 2009 Pan American Weightlifting Championships but was later disqualified after testing positive for cannabis. He competed for Armenia in the 94 kg weight class at the 2012 Summer Olympics where he placed 11th. Sylvie Vartan (; born Sylvie Georges Vartanian; hy, Սիլվի Ժորժ Վարդանյան. on 15 August 1944) is an Armenian-Bulgarian-French singer and actress. She is known as one of the most productive and tough-sounding yé-yé artists. Her performances often featured elaborate show-dance choreography, and she made many appearances on French and Italian TV. Early life and education Vartanian was born into a family of jewellers in Beirut, Lebanon, and spent his early life in São Paulo, Brazil surrounded by precious stones. Mariam Vardanian
Mariam Vardanian (also known as Maro Nazarbek) (1864–1941) was an Armenian people, Armenian political activist and revolutionary in the Russian Empire. She was one of the founders of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party. From Tiflis, where she was born, Maro moved to Paris, then to Geneva, where she studied at the local university. Since 1887 she was a member of editorial board of the ''Hunchak'' journal and central committee of the Hunchakian party. In 1901-1904 she met Vladimir Lenin in Paris. From 1904 onwards she was involved in revolutionary activities in the Russian Empire. In 1910, she was arrested and sent to Siberia. Sammy Couch, also known as 'Psycho' Sam Cody, is a retired professional wrestler. Couch wrestled for Dale Mann in Kentucky in the late 1970's and early 1980's as the Destroyer. He was partnered with Terry Herron, The Superdestroyer, and the two became MWA Tag Champions, until Cody lost was unmasked. The two later worked for Ohio promoter Bob Harmon and Kentucky promoter Cliff Lily. When Herron left the company, Cody then took on adopted the character "Pago Sam," a takeoff of a character Herron often played. Operation Long Jump
Operation Long Jump (german: Unternehmen Weitsprung) was an alleged German plan to simultaneously assassinate Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and Franklin Roosevelt, the "Big Three" Allied leaders, at the 1943 Tehran Conference during World War II. The operation in Iran was to be led by SS-''Obersturmbannführer'' Otto Skorzeny of the Waffen SS.
