Gus Van Sant
Gus Green Van Sant Jr. (born July 24, 1952) is an American film director, producer, photographer, and musician. He has earned acclaim as both an independent and mainstream filmmaker. His films typically deal with themes of marginalized subcultures, in particular homosexuality. Van Sant is considered one of the most prominent auteurs of the New Queer Cinema movement. His early career was devoted to directing television commercials in the Pacific Northwest. He made his feature-length cinematic directorial debut with ''Mala Noche'' (1985). His second feature, ''Drugstore Cowboy'' (1989), was highly acclaimed, and earned him screenwriting awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and New York Film Critics Circle and the award for Best Director from the National Society of Film Critics. Joshua Van Sant
Joshua Van Sant (December 31, 1803 – April 8, 1884) was a United States Congressional representative from Maryland. He served as mayor of Baltimore from 1871 to 1875. Background Van Sant was born in Millington in Kent County, Maryland. He moved with his parents to Wilmington, Delaware, in 1807, and later to Philadelphia in 1812. He attended the common schools before moving to Baltimore, Maryland. Career He engaged in hat making in 1817, became a journeyman, and continued that trade until 1835. He was an unsuccessful candidate as a Jackson Democrat (supporting seventh President Andrew Jackson) to the lower chamber Maryland House of Delegates of the General Assembly of Maryland in 1833 and 1834, but served as a delegate to the State constitutional convention (version unratified) in 1836. Samuel Rinnah Van Sant
Samuel Rinnah Van Sant (May 11, 1844October 3, 1936) was an American politician who served in the Minnesota House of Representatives and as the 15th Governor of Minnesota. Early life Van Sant was born in Rock Island, Illinois, to John Wesley Van Sant and Lydia Van Sant (née Anderson). His family had a long history in the shipbuilding industry and his father worked with building and repairing steamboats on the Mississippi River. Van Sant attended school in Rock Island. When the American Civil War began, he attempted to enlist but was rejected as too young. After getting written permission from his father, Van Sant was accepted and served with the 9th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Cavalry for three years before being mustered out. After the war, Van Sant took business classes in Hudson, New York, and briefly attended Knox College in Illinois before leaving school due to a lack of money. Tom Van Sant (born 1931) is a sculptor, painter, and conceptual artist. In his professional work he has executed 77 major sculpture and mural commissions for public spaces around the world. These include the international airports of Honolulu, Taipei and Los Angeles, the civic centers of Los Angeles, Newport Beach and Inglewood, and corporate centers in Taiwan, Manila, Salt Lake City, Dallas, Honolulu and San Francisco. Peter Van Sant (born February 21, 1953) is an American television news reporter and correspondent for '' 48 Hours''. Early life and education Van Sant was born on February 21, 1953, in Seattle, Washington. He graduated cum laude from Washington State University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in Communications. Career After graduation Van Sant worked for KAPY-LP in Port Angeles, WA. He joined KMVT-TV in Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1975. He worked for Cedar Rapids-based KCRG-TV from 1976 through 1977, and from 1977 through 1978 for Omaha-based KETV. In 1978 he joined KOOL-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, as weekend anchor and reporter. Van Sant Airport
Vansant Airport or Van Sant Airport is a public use airport located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States and owned by the Bucks County Airport Authority. It is two nautical miles (3.7 km) southwest of the central business district of Erwinna, Pennsylvania. History In 1945, John Van Sant (born 1912) bought the Silver Star Airport in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, renamed it to The Old Star Airport, and started his own business, Van Sant Flying Service. The business offered crop dusting and flight training. (This airport closed about 1973 and housing development has since obliterated its existence.) Van Sant dealt in aircraft and also bought US government surplus parts. In 1957, he moved his business to Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
