Valparaiso Crusaders Men's Soccer
The Valparaiso Crusaders men's soccer team represented Valparaiso University (Valpo) in NCAA Division I soccer competition as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference The Crusaders played home matches at Brown Field on the Valpo campus in Valparaiso, Indiana. History Valparaiso began playing men's soccer in 1983. The Beacons were a charter member of the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982 and entered Mid-Con soccer competition in 1988. In 2007, Valpo began a ten-year all-sports membership in the Horizon League. In May 2017, the Missouri Valley Conference extended an invitation for the Crusaders to join; after concluding conference play for the year, Valparaiso accepted the invitation on May 25, with the move being effective on July 1. Following the 2019 NCAA Division I men's soccer season, Valparaiso will cut the sport and men's tennis in order to allow greater attention to the school's other sports teams. Horizon League
The Horizon League is an 11-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. The conference started with a membership of six teams and has fluctuated in size with 24 different schools as members at different times. The League currently has 11 members. Its most recent membership changes occurred on July 1, 2022 with the departure of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) to the Missouri Valley Conference. Summit League
The Summit League, or The Summit, is an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic conference with its membership mostly located in the Midwestern United States from Illinois on the East of the Mississippi River to the Dakotas and Nebraska on the West, with additional members in the Western United States, Western state of Colorado and the Southern United States, Southern state of Oklahoma. Founded as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982, it rebranded as the Mid-Continent Conference in 1989, then again as the Summit League on June 1, 2007. Kyle Zobeck (born February 6, 1990) is an American former soccer player. Career College and amateur Born and raised in Iowa, Zobeck played five years of college soccer at Valparaiso University between 2008 and 2012. He was named the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year in his junior year at Valparaiso. While at college, Zobeck also appeared for USL PDL club Des Moines Menace in 2009. The 2019 NCAA Division I men's soccer season was the 61st season of NCAA championship men's college soccer. The regular season began on August 30, 2019 and continued into the third weekend of November 2019. The season culminated with the four-team College Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, December 13–15, 2019. A total of 206 men's soccer teams played in Division I during this season. Mike Avery (born September 19, 1968) is an American athletic director, soccer coach, and former player who played as a midfielder or forward. He is the head coach and sporting director of USL League Two club Fort Wayne FC. A native of San Jose, California, Avery played collegiately at Westmont College. The Warriors won four Golden State Athletic Conference titles during his time at the school and thrice qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics tournament. After graduating, he spent four years at the senior level, split between Real Santa Barbara and Askims IK. Avery also had a spell as a player-coach with Indiana Invaders.
