Valley Lodge (band)
Valley Lodge is an American power pop band from New York City. Band history Valley Lodge came together when John Kimbrough, former singer-guitarist for Minnesota power pop band Walt Mink, met up with comedian/musician Dave Hill (formerly a member of bands such as Cobra Verde, and Sons of Elvis) to compare the home demos they were working on. Joined by bass player/singer Phil Costello ( Satanicide) and drummer Rob Pfeiffer (Sense Field), and inspired by bands such as Cheap Trick, Raspberries, Thin Lizzy and Big Star, they released their eponymous debut album in 2005. The album proved particularly popular in Japan, even getting a re-release with bonus tracks in 2008. The band went on to tour there in March 2009. The band released their second album, ''Semester at Sea'', on April 21, 2009, containing ten new songs by the band and a cover of Bob Welch's 1970s hit, "Sentimental Lady". Big Star (band)
Big Star was an American rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971 by Alex Chilton (vocals, guiar), Chris Bell (vocals, guitar), Jody Stephens (drums), and Andy Hummel (bass). The group broke up in early 1975, and reorganized with a new lineup 18 years later following a reunion concert at the University of Missouri. In its first era, the band's musical style drew on the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Byrds. Big Star produced a style that foreshadowed the alternative rock of the 1980s and 1990s. Before they broke up, Big Star created a "seminal body of work that never stopped inspiring succeeding generations", in the words of ''Rolling Stone'', as the "quintessential American power pop band", and "one of the most mythic and influential cult acts in all of rock & roll". Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is usually held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand. ''Last Week Tonight with John Oliver'' (often abridged as ''Last Week Tonight'') is an American late-night talk and news satire television program hosted by comedian John Oliver. The half-hour-long show premiered in April 2014 on HBO. ''Last Week Tonight'' shares some similarities with Comedy Central's ''The Daily Show'' (where Oliver was previously featured as a correspondent and fill-in host), as the show takes a satirical look at news, politics and current events, but on a weekly basis and primarily from a liberal bent. Oliver's initial contract with HBO was for two years with an option for extension. In September 2020, HBO announced that the show had been renewed for three additional seasons of 30 episodes each, keeping the show on the air through 2023.
