Vale o' Nith Football Club was an association football club from Dumfries, Scotland. History The club was founded in 1880 by "very young and enthusiastic" players. Although the club's name was sometimes given as Vale of Nith, it was officially registered as Vale o' Nith. It was a founder member of the Southern Counties Association in 1881; the association obtained a trophy from the Rev. W. H. Churchill of Moffat for a competition, and Vale o' Nith played in the Churchill Cup from its first edition in 1881–82 until 1888–89. The Vale won through to the second round in its first entry, losing 6–0 to the strongest side in the area in the second round, Queen of the South Wanderers.
