Valdôtain Dialect
Valdôtain (; local dialect: ''Valdotèn'', ''Valdŏtèn'', ''Valdouhtan'') is a dialect of Arpitan (Franco-Provençal) spoken in the Aosta Valley in Italy. It is commonly known as ''patois'' or ''patoué''. Diffusion The Aosta Valley represents nowadays the only region of the Franco-Provençal area where this language is still widely spoken as native by all age ranges of the population. Vocabulary examples Several subdialects of Valdôtain exist that exhibit unique features in terms of phonetics and vocabulary. Linguistic studies Valdôtain has been the subject of detailed study at the Bureau régional pour l'ethnologie et la linguistique (BREL) in Aosta as well as in the Centre d'études francoprovençales in Saint-Nicolas. Émarèse
Émarèse ( Valdôtain: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the Aosta Valley region of north-western Italy. It has 213 inhabitants. Geography The situation of the territory, located on the Northern part of Aosta Valley, favours sunlight conditions and landscape sightseeing. The elevation varies from 700 m to 2,107 m of Testa di Comagna. The Tzecore Pass links Émarèse and Challand-Saint-Anselme. Ayas, Aosta Valley
Ayas ( frp, Ayâs or ; Gressoney wae, Ajats; between 1939 and 1945) is a '' comune sparso'' in the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy, with 1359 inhabitants in 2010. Geography It is made up of several ''frazioni'' (locally officially called ''hameaux'', in French), the two major ones being Antagnod which holds the town hall and the main parish, and Champoluc. All the ''frazioni'' of Ayas were combined under the one jurisdictional parish of Saint-Martin d'Antagnod in 1761. They remained combined in this way until the new parish of Sainte-Anne of Champoluc was built in 1946. The comune of Ayas lies up the Ayas valley from Brusson. Valtournenche (local Valdôtain: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the Aosta Valley region of north-western Italy, above the sea level. It is named after and covers most of the ''Valtournenche'', a valley on the left side of the Dora Baltea, from Châtillon to the Matterhorn.
