Vaine Nooana-Arioka
Vaine Nooana-Arioka is a Cook Islands economist. She has been Chief Executive of the Bank of the Cook Islands (BCI) since 2008. Under her leadership, BCI launched its internet banking service in 2015. As of 2018 she was one of five women on the board of the Association of Developing Financing Institutions in the Pacific. In 2012 she enabled a new collaboration with the government to encourage sustainable pearl farming in the region. she has also spoken out on the importance of financial institutions in supporting initiatives that enable climate crisis resilience. She has held a variety of advisory and non-executive roles in the region, including for the Cook Islands Business Trade and Investment Board, Cook Islands Women's Counselling Centre, Cook Islands Girl Guides and for the Red Cross in the Cook Islands. Avarua
Avarua (meaning "Two Harbours" in Cook Islands Māori) is a town and district in the north of the island of Rarotonga, and is the national capital of the Cook Islands. The town is served by Rarotonga International Airport (IATA Airport Code: RAR) and Avatiu Harbour. The population of Avarua District is 4,906 (census of 2016). A pearl is a hard, glistening object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk or another animal, such as fossil conulariids. Just like the shell of a mollusk, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate (mainly aragonite or a mixture of aragonite and calcite) in minute crystalline form, which has deposited in concentric layers. The Girl Guides Cook Islands Association
The Girl Guides Cook Islands Association is the national Guiding organization of the Cook Islands. It served 1,111 members (as of 2003). Founded in 1928, the girls-only organization became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1993 and a full member in 2014. Guiding began in the Cook Islands in 1928, when the first Guide company began in the capital, Avarua on Rarotonga, and the islands were regarded as a province of the Girl Guide Association of New Zealand. Ranger patrols were first set up in 1935 and the first brownie pack was registered in 1937. The first outer island company was started in Aitutaki in 1948. The 1950s were an era of growth, with the foundation of new companies both on Rarotonga and on the outer islands.
