Vaasa Airport
Vaasa Airport ( fi, Vaasan lentoasema, sv, Vasa flygplats) is located in Vaasa, Finland, about south-east of Vaasa city centre. As of 2021, it is the 9th busiest airport in Finland with 19,231 passengers. Regular airlines at Vaasa airport are Finnair and Scandinavian Airlines. The airport is also served by several charters with destinations to Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Greece, Spain and Turkey. History The airport was opened in 1938 when Aero began passenger traffic, which was later interrupted by the war. In 1945 the airport building was completed and passenger routes were reopened. The airport took its current shape in the 1950s, when the runway was extended to 1,800 metres and the airport building was expanded. In 1951 Vaasa Airport got its first international connection as Veljekset Karhumäki opened a route to Sundsvall in Sweden. Vaasa Arena
Vaasan Sähkö Areena (, Vaasa Energy Arena) is a multipurpose arena in Vaasa, Finland. It was previously called the ''Kuparisaaren jäähalli'' (Copper Island Ice Rink) and locals often use the old name in conversation. The arena first opened in 1971 and has undergone renovation and expansion several times. It is located approximately three kilometres (roughly two miles) south-east of downtown Vaasa. Vaasa University of Applied Sciences ( fi, Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu, Vamk, sv, Vasa yrkeshögskola) popularly called VAMK, is an international higher education institution in Vaasa, Finland. VAMK educates Bachelors of Business Administration, Engineering, Hospitality Management and Social Services as well as Registered Nurses and Public Health Nurses in Finnish, Swedish and English for the demanding needs of the working life. Vaasa Province
The Province of Vaasa ( ; , , Sweden ) was a province of Finland, established in 1775 when Finland was an integrated part of Sweden from the southern part of Ostrobothnia County and disbanded in 1996. The province was named after the city of Vaasa. On the death of Tsar Nicholas I in 1855, a small group of citizens in the city of Vaasa tendered a petition to change the name of the city after him. The name of the city came from the Royal House of Vasa and despite that only 15 citizens were backing the proposal the name of the city was changed to Nikolaistad (russian: Николайстада, fi, Nikolainkaupunki). In 1960 the eastern part was separated as the Province of Central Finland. In 1997 it was reunited with Central Finland, together they merged with the northern part of the Province of Häme and the Province of Turku and Pori to establish the new Province of Western Finland.
