V. Ramarathnam
V. Ramarathnam (1917–2008) was a Carnatic musician, author, teacher and composer known under the Mudra (music), mudra ''Rama''. His career spanned approximately 70 years until his death in 2008. He studied under Sangeetha Rathna Mysore Chowdiah, and later became the first Principal of the University of Mysore, University College of Music and Dance in Mysore, a position which he held until his retirement in 1987. During his career he composed around 25 kriti (music), kritis in well known ragas in Sanskrit, Telugu language, Telugu and Kannada language, Kannada. He also wrote or co-wrote thirteen books about the theoretical and practical aspects of Carnatic music. Ten of these books have been published by the University Press at the University of Mysore. Chittoor
Chittoor is a city and district headquarters in Chittoor district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is also the mandal and divisional headquarters of Chittoor mandal and Chittoor revenue division, respectively. The city has a population of 153,756 and that of the agglomeration is 175,647. History After the Indian independence in 1947, Chittoor became a part of the erstwhile Madras State. Carnatic Music
Carnatic music, known as or in the Dravidian languages, South Indian languages, is a system of music commonly associated with South India, including the modern Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and Sri Lanka. It is one of two main subgenres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu Texts and traditions, particularly the Samaveda. The other subgenre being Hindustani music, which emerged as a distinct form because of Persian or Islamic influences from Northern India. The main emphasis in Carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in ''gāyaki'' (singing) style. Male (symbol: ♂) is the sex of an organism that produces the gamete (sex cell) known as sperm, which fuses with the larger female gamete, or ovum, in the process of fertilization. Kannada Language
Kannada (; ಕನ್ನಡ, ), originally romanised Canarese, is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by the people of Karnataka in southwestern India, with minorities in all neighbouring states.
