V. Arumugam (Malaysian Politician)
Arumugam Vengatarakoo is a Malaysian politician and was a member of the State Assembly of Kedah for the seat of Bukit Selambau from 2008 to 2009. Arumugam was elected in the 2008 election as an independent, but immediately joined the People's Justice Party in the new Pakatan Rakyat coalition government of Kedah. He was appointed to the Executive Council to represent Kedah's Indian community in the state government. However, in February 2009, Arumugam resigned from the Executive Council and the State Assembly, triggering a by-election. The Election Commission of Malaysia ( ms, Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya Malaysia), abbreviated SPR or EC, is a commission set up for ensuring fair and equitable operations in undertaking the elections in Malaysia. The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC; ta, மலேசிய இந்திய காங்கிரஸ், Malēciya Intiya Kāṅkiras; formerly known as Malayan Indian Congress) is a Malaysian political party. 2008 Kedah State Election
The 12th Kedah state election was held on 8 March 2008. Polling took place in 36 constituencies throughout the Malaysian state of Kedah, with each electing a State Assemblyman to the Kedah State Legislative Assembly. The election was conducted by the Malaysian Election Commission. The state election was held concurrently with the 2008 Malaysian general election.
