State Route 26 (SR-26) is a state highway in northern Utah running for in Weber County from Roy to Ogden. It serves as a diagonal route through the Ogden suburbs and the primary connector from northbound I-15 to eastbound I-84 and westbound I-84 to southbound I-15. Route description SR-26 begins at an intersection with SR-126 in Roy and heads northeast through the Ogden suburbs on Riverdale Road, intersecting I-15 and I-84 in close proximity in Riverdale before continuing to end at an intersection with US-89 in Ogden. Roy, Utah
Roy is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States, located on the west side of Interstate 15. The population estimate in 2019 was 39,613, an increase of 5.8% from 36,884 at the 2010 Census. It is part of the Ogden− Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is considered a suburb of nearby Ogden, although some small businesses are present in Roy. History Previously Eastern Shoshone and Goshute land, Roy was settled in 1873 by William Evans Baker, twenty-five years after Ogden. Most of the communities to the east and south had been settled prior to that time. Previously known as Central City, Sandridge, the Basin, and Lakeview—Roy was ultimately named for a local school teacher's child, Roy C. Peebles, who had died. On May 24, 1894, a post office was established and Roy's name was made official. The City of Roy was incorporated on March 10, 1937. US-50 (UT)
U.S. Route 50 (US-50) in Utah crosses the center of the state. The highway serves no major population centers in Utah, with the largest city along its path being Delta. Most of the route passes through desolate, remote areas. Through the eastern half of the state the route is concurrent with Interstate 70 (I-70). US-50 both enters and exits Utah concurrent with US-6, however the two routes are separate through the center of the state. Three completely different routings of US-50 have existed between Green River and Ely, Nevada. The route between these cities has become progressively shorter as new roads have been paved through this largely uninhabited region of both states. 1977 Renumbering (Utah)
In 1977, the Utah State Legislature changed its system of how state route numbers were used and assigned. Prior to 1977 Utah used a system where every U.S. Highway and Interstate Highway traversing the state was assigned a different Utah state route number. This state route number was not posted on signs, but was only used for legislative purposes, such as funding. There were many instances where having different route numbers for signing and legislative purposes could cause confusion. For example, the highway signed Interstate 15 in Utah was legislatively defined State Route 1, not route 15. State Route 15 also existed, but was a different route that passed through Zion National Park. In 1977, the state changed to a system where all highways would have the same legislative route number as its signed route number. State Route 126 (SR-126) is a highway completely within the Ogden-Clearfield metropolitan area in northern Utah that makes a loop around Interstate 15 in its more than twenty-one mile path. The street is given the names Main Street, 1900 West and 2000 West respectively from south to north. Previous to 1977, SR-126 was a road in southern Utah. A portion of the highway is an old routing of US-91. Route description After its southern terminus, the route heads northwest in Layton. After entering Clearfield, the route turns straight to the north. It continues this direction through Sunset, Roy, and West Haven before veering to the northwest when the highway reaches Marriott-Slaterville.
