Utah's 2nd State Senate District
The 2nd Utah Senate District is located in Salt Lake County, Utah and includes Utah House Districts 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, 33 and 35. The current State Senator representing the 2nd district is Derek Kitchen. Kitchen was elected to the Utah Senate in 2018 to replace Jim Dabakis. Previous Utah State Senators (District 2) Election results In December 2009, Scott McCoy resigned from his position because he "simply cannot find the necessary time to be a successful attorney and give the time and energy to fully represent the residents of my district." Utah Democratic Party
The Utah Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Utah. Its platform focuses on economic security, equal opportunity, the common good, and American leadership. The party also describes itself as a big tent party. History The Democratic Party originated around 1884 in Utah. In 1896, more than 80 percent of the state vote went toward William Jennings Bryan, a Democrat, and the state elected several Democrats to state and local offices. Joseph Monson
Joseph Monson (1862-1932) was an architect based first in Logan, Utah and later in Salt Lake City, Utah. At least two of his works are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He was born February 2, 1862, in Logan, and died February 16, 1932. He worked for his father's construction company, including, at age 16, helping to build the Logan LDS Temple. After he served a Mormon mission to Norway in 1883–85, he became an architect. In Logan, he partnered with Karl C. Schaub for eight years, with Monson as the senior partner. Monson and Schaub designed "major" buildings for the Agricultural College of Utah (later Utah State University) and most of the schools in Cache County. Joseph Howell
Joseph Howell (February 17, 1857 – July 18, 1918) was a U.S. Representative from Utah. Life and career Born in Brigham City, Utah Territory, Howell moved with his parents to Wellsville, Utah, in 1863. He attended the common schools and the University of Utah at Salt Lake City. He taught school, engaged in mercantile pursuits, and served as mayor of Wellsville from 1882 to 1884. Howell served in the territorial house of representatives from 1886 to 1892. After Utah gained statehood, Howell served as member of the State senate from 1896 to 1900. He was also regent of the University of Utah from 1896 to 1900. Howell moved to Logan, Utah, in 1901. Herschel Bullen
Herschel Bullen (November 13, 1870 – February 2, 1966) was an American businessman, politician and leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Logan, Utah. Biography Bullen was born in Richmond, Utah. He graduated from the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah) in 1890 and then worked as a farmer and school teacher in both Richmond and later Lewiston, Utah. Bullen served an LDS mission in England from 1894 to 1897. Shortly before leaving he had married Mary Hendricks. Bullen helped form the ''Logan Republican'', a newspaper with political leaning towards the Republican Party, in 1903. From 1900 to 1904 Bullen was the president of the Logan School board.
