Uta Zapf
Uta Zapf (born 14 August 1941 in Liegnitz, Province of Lower Silesia) is a German politician and member of the Bundestag (SPD). Since 1998, she has been the chairperson of the subcommittee for "Disarmament, Arms Control, and Nonproliferation" of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag. Life and career After the completion of her Abitur in 1961, Zapf studied Germanistics, English studies, and literature at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Afterwards, she worked as a freelancer as an editor and translator for publishers. Later she also worked as an instructor in adult education Zapf is married and has one child. Party Zapf joined the SPD in 1972, and since 1990 has been the chairperson of the commission of "International Politics and Peace" (''Internationale Politik und Frieden'') of the SPD executive committee for South Hesse (Hessen Süd). Liegnitz
Legnica (Polish: ; german: Liegnitz, szl, Lignica, cz, Lehnice, la, Lignitium) is a city in southwestern Poland, in the central part of Lower Silesia, on the Kaczawa River (left tributary of the Oder) and the Czarna Woda. Between 1 June 1975 and 31 December 1998 Legnica was the capital of the Legnica Voivodeship. It is currently the seat of the county and since 1992 the city has been the seat of a Diocese. As of 2021, Legnica had a population of 97,300 inhabitants. The city was first referenced in chronicles dating from the year 1004, although previous settlements could be traced back to the 7th century. The name "Legnica" was mentioned in 1149 under High Duke of Poland Bolesław IV the Curly. Legnica was most likely the seat of Bolesław and it became the residence of the high dukes that ruled the Duchy of Legnica from 1248 until 1675. 2002 German Federal Election
Federal elections were held in Germany on 22 September 2002 to elect the members of the 15th Bundestag. Incumbent Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's centre-left "red-green" governing coalition retained a narrow majority, and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) retained their status as the largest party in the Bundestag by three seats. Issues and campaign Several issues dominated the campaign, with the opposition CDU/CSU attacking the government's performance on the economy which fell back into recession due to the Telecoms crash and the introduction of the euro, as well as campaigning on family values and against taxes (particularly on fuel).
