''Usher'' is the debut studio album by American singer Usher. It was released on August 30, 1994, by LaFace Records and Arista Records. As executive producer, Sean "Puffy" Combs mostly handled production work on the album, as additional production were provided by Chucky Thompson, DeVante Swing and Al B. Sure!, among others. Despite it underperforming on charts, debuting at number 167 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, the album did reach number 4 on the US Heatseekers Albums Chart. The release of the album was accompanied by the support of three singles: "Can U Get wit It", " Think of You" and " The Many Ways". Critical reception Billy Johnson Jr. of Yahoo! Music called the debut album "an enjoyable ride." Anderson Jones of ''Entertainment Weekly'' in a less-than-enthusiastic review of the album called the songs "sophomoric" and "remarkably dull." Usher Raymond IV (born October 14, 1978) is an American R&B singer. He was born in Dallas, Texas, but raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, until moving to Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of 12, his mother put him in local singing competitions before catching the attention of a music A&R from LaFace Records. He released his self-titled debut album '' Usher'' (1994), and rose to fame in the late 1990s with the release of his second album ''My Way'' (1997). Donell Jones (born May 22, 1973) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is most notable for the hits "U Know What's Up", " Where I Wanna Be", and his cover of Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet". Top Heatseekers are "Breaking and Entering" music charts issued weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. The Heatseekers Albums and the Heatseekers Songs charts were introduced by ''Billboard'' in 1991 with the purpose of highlighting the sales by new and developing musical recording artists.
