Usha Kiran Palace
Usha Kiran Palace is a heritage hotel, adjacent to Jai Vilas Mahal on a 9-acre land in Gwalior built by the royal Scindia dynasty of the Marathas. The management of the five-star hotel is done by Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces. The hotel makes use of solar power energy produced at Kadodiya Solar Park, which has been built by Vivaan Solar. History It was built in 1902 as a guest residence for the Prince of Wales who was visiting. It later became the guest house of Jivajirao Scindia Quote: "Maharaja's former guesthouse" where he brought Vijayaraje Scindia after the marriage. Subsequently moving from Mumbai to Gwalior, Priyadarshini Raje Scindia, the wife of Jyotiraditya Scindia, transformed the Palace into a hotel. George Jivajirao Scindia
Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia KStJ (26 June 1916 – 16 July 1961) was an Indian prince and government official. In the British Raj, he was the ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Gwalior in central India from 1925 until 1947. After the state was absorbed into independent India, he was granted a privy purse, certain privileges, and the use of the title ''Maharaja of Gwalior'' by the Government of India, which he retained until his death in 1961. Priyadarshini Raje Scindia (née Gaekwad; born 16 February 1975) is married to the Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia. Biography Scindia was born in 1975. Vijaya Raje Scindia (12 October 1919 – 25 January 2001), born Lekha Divyeshwari Devi and known popularly as the Rajmata of Gwalior, was a prominent Indian political personality. In the days of the British Raj, as consort of the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior, Jivajirao Scindia, she ranked among the highest royal figures of the land.
