Ursa Major (russian: Большая Медведица, Bol'shaya Medveditsa, Mikhail Uriokovitch Ursus) is a fictional character, a mutant appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character has been depicted as a member of the Soviet Super-Soldiers. The character appeared as a human in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe film ''Black Widow'' (2021), portrayed by Olivier Richters. Publication history His first appearance was in '' Incredible Hulk'' (vol. 2) #258, and the character was created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema. Fictional character biography Born in Blagoveshchensk, Mikhail Ursus was one of the first known mutants born in the Soviet Union in the 20th Century to survive past childhood. In American comic books published by Marvel Comics, a mutant is a human being that possesses a genetic trait called the X-gene. It causes the mutant to develop superhuman powers that manifest at puberty. Human mutants are sometimes referred to as a human subspecies ''Homo sapiens superior,'' or simply ''Homo superior.'' Mutants are the evolutionary progeny of ''Homo sapiens'', and are generally assumed to be the next stage in human evolution. The accuracy of this is the subject of much debate in the Marvel Universe. A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) is a fictional criminal organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Decimation (comics)
"Decimation" is a storyline published by Marvel Comics in 2005, spinning out of the events of the ''House of M'' limited series. The event started with a one-shot issue and took place in a number of various series all carrying the "Decimation" logo on the cover. The 2005 miniseries '' Generation M'', ''Sentinel Squad O*N*E'', '' X-Men: Deadly Genesis'' and '' X-Men: The 198'' were all launched specifically for the "Decimation" storyline. The various stories were collected in five trade paper backs. The storyline focuses on the ramifications of the Scarlet Witch stripping nearly all of the mutant population of their powers, thereby reducing a society of millions to one of scant hundreds.
