Urbanus (comics)
Urbanus was a Flemish celebrity comic strip created by Willy Linthout and loosely based on Flemish comedian and singer Urbanus. The stories were written by Willy Linthout, Urbanus and Ann Smets,Te verschijnen - De avonturen van Urbanus 195: Neppergem Stripspeciaalzaak.be and drawn by Linthout. Standaard Uitgeverij
Standaard Uitgeverij is a Belgian publisher, and the leading publisher in the Dutch language market of Flanders. History In 1919, the Standaard group was created, mainly consisting of a chain of bookshops ( Standaard Boekhandel), a newspaper (''De Standaard'') and a publishing house, the Standaard Uitgeverij. By the 1930s, the different branches became more and more independent, but only in the 1980s was the group finally disbanded. In 1994, the company was acquired by the Dutch group PCM Algemene Boeken BV. The company is best known for its comics and popular literature, but also publishes youth literature, non-fiction (mainly cartography, lexicography, and massmarket titles), and multimedia publications. The Daltons (Lucky Luke)
Joe, William, Jack and Averell Dalton, known together as The Daltons or the Dalton brothers, are fictional characters in the ''Lucky Luke'' Western comics series. Four brothers and outlaws acting as the most recurring enemies to protagonist Lucky Luke, they were created by artist Morris and writer René Goscinny. Loosely inspired by the real-life Dalton Gang active in the United States in early 1890s (who themselves appeared in the 1954 ''Lucky Luke'' story " Outlaws"), The Daltons first had a one-panel cameo appearance in the 1958 comic '' Lucky Luke versus Joss Jamon'', before being prominently featured later that year in the comic '' The Dalton Cousins'' (named as such because the four are billed as the cousins of their real-life counterparts within the ''Lucky Luke'' universe). Fantasy comics have been around as long as comics. The classification "fantasy comics" broadly encompasses illustrated books set in an other-worldly universe or involving elements or actors outside our reality. Middelkerke
Middelkerke () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders, on the North Sea, west of Ostend. The municipality comprises the villages of Leffinge, Lombardsijde, Mannekensvere, Middelkerke proper, Schore, Sint-Pieters-Kapelle, Slijpe, Westende and Wilskerke. On January 1, 2006, Middelkerke had a total population of 17,841. The total area is 75.65 km2 which gives a population density of 236 inhabitants per km2. ''De Kiekeboes'' is a comic strip series created by Belgian artist Merho in 1977. The series appears in Dutch. It is first published in the newspapers ''Gazet van Antwerpen'' and ''Het Belang van Limburg'' and then published as comic books by Standaard Uitgeverij. The series is the best-selling comic in Flanders, but is unsuccessful abroad, with only a few publications in French and English. History ''De Kiekeboes'' debuted in 1977. Merho had previously worked with Willy Vandersteen but wanted to create his own series. The first story, ''De Wollebollen'', started in ''Het Laatste Nieuws''. on 15 February 1977. New albums in the series appear every three months, and sell over 100,000 copies each.
