Urban Rusnák
Urban Rusnák (born 9 September 1967 in Košice, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak diplomat and academic. He holds a M.Sc. from the Moscow University of Oil and Gas, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Political Sciences from the Institute of Social Sciences of Ankara University. Rusnák wrote his thesis on the Geopolitics of Oil and Gas in the Caspian region. Diplomatic service He joined the Czechoslovak foreign ministry and its diplomatic corps in 1992. Following the Velvet Revolution and the breakup of Czechoslovakia in 1993, he decided to stay with the newly formed Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Soon after he was assigned his first diplomatic mission, in Ankara, Turkey, . Rusnák was the first Director of the International Visegrad Fund (IVF), a fund supporting in the cultural and political cooperation of the four countries involved in the Visegrád Group. Velvet Revolution
The Velvet Revolution ( cs, Sametová revoluce) or Gentle Revolution ( sk, Nežná revolúcia) was a non-violent transition of power in what was then Czechoslovakia, occurring from 17 November to 28 November 1989. Popular demonstrations against the one-party government of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia included students and older dissidents. The result was the end of 41 years of one-party rule in Czechoslovakia, and the subsequent dismantling of the command economy and conversion to a parliamentary republic. On 17 November 1989 (International Students' Day), riot police suppressed a student demonstration in Prague. 2009 Russia–Ukraine Gas Dispute
In 2009, Russian natural gas company Gazprom refused to conclude a supply contract unless Ukrainian gas company Naftogaz paid its accumulating debts for previous gas supplies. The dispute began in the closing weeks of 2008 with a series of failed negotiations, and on January 1, 2009 Russia cut off gas supplies to Ukraine.
