Upside Out
''Upside Out'' is a CD by the Riverside City College Jazz Ensemble and combo; this was released in 2003 on the Sea Breeze Vista Jazz label. Critic Jack Bowers notes, "A consistently rewarding album by top-drawer college-level jazz ensemble and trio." Most notably the CD continues to receive airplay through the country due to the high level of the music on the recording. Background The Riverside City College Jazz Ensemble has been existence for over 40 years; the combos are subgroups of the larger ensemble. The 2003 CD ''Upside out'' is a by product of the consistency the jazz studies department at Riverside City College maintains. ''All About Jazz'' is a website established by Michael Ricci in 1995. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Ricci maintains a related site, ''Jazz Near You'', about local concerts and events. The Jazz Journalists Association voted ''All About Jazz'' Best Website Covering Jazz for thirteen consecutive years between 2003 and 2015, when the category was retired. In 2015, Ricci said the site received a peak of 1.3 million readers per month in 2007. Another source said that the site has over 500,000 readers around the world. Ricci was born in Philadelphia. He heard classical and jazz from his father's music collection. He played trumpet and went to his first jazz concert when he was eight. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. KVLU
KVLU (91.3 FM), is a public radio station and NPR affiliate broadcasting throughout southeast Texas. It is licensed to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas with studios located on campus and a transmitter site located in Rose City, Texas. The broadcast area reaches to Jasper, Texas at the north, Lake Charles, Louisiana to the east, Bolivar, Texas to the south and Baytown, Texas to the west. International Association For Jazz Education
International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE), formerly a not-for-profit corporation based in Manhattan, Kansas, was a volunteer-run organization that, among other things, allocated student scholarships through its approved festivals program. Its annual conference was a gathering point for professional artists as well as jazz enthusiasts. Many considered IAJE to be a foundation of the jazz community, and its many programs to be a cornerstone of jazz education. IAJE was first incorporated as a non-profit on August 18, 1989, having developed from the International Association of Jazz Educators (since 1971) and the U.S. National Association of Jazz Education (since 1968). The association organized more than 7,000 teachers, musicians, producers, and others interested in jazz, from more than thirty countries. Robert Harry "Bob" Curnow (born November 1, 1941) is an American musician who served as a trombonist, staff arranger and producer for the Stan Kenton Orchestra during the 1960s and 1970s.Sparke, Michael; Venudor, Peter (1998). Rick Margitza
Rick Margitza (born October 24, 1961) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Biography Margitza's paternal grandfather, a Hungarian Gypsy violinist, taught him to play the violin at the age of four. His father also played violin with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Following this he played piano and oboe, and settled on tenor sax while in Fordson High School. He attended several colleges: Wayne State University, Berklee College of Music, University of Miami, and Loyola University New Orleans. He toured with Maynard Ferguson and Flora Purim in the 1980s, and moved to New York City in 1988, where he played with Miles Davis. Between 1989 and 1991, Margitza released three albums for Blue Note Records, ''Color'', ''Hope'' and ''This Is New''. Q Magazine described Hope as "a soft, glancing rather affected record". Kim Richmond
Kim Richmond (born July 24, 1940, Champaign, Illinois) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Richmond played piano, clarinet, and saxophone when young, and made his professional debut in 1956. He studied at the University of Illinois in the early 1960s. He played in the U.S. Air Force big band, the Airmen of Note, while serving from 1963–67 in Washington D.C. He then moved to California and played with Stan Kenton (1967), Clare Fischer (1968), Louie Bellson (1969–72), Lalo Schifrin (1979), Bob Florence (1979), Les Brown (1989), Bill Holman (1990), Vinny Golia (1991), Johnny Mandel, Chris Walden, and Clay Jenkins. Richmond arranged professionally from the 1960s, for Schifrin, Buddy Rich, and Ernie Watts . He founded the Kim Richmond Concert Jazz Orchestra in southern California to perform his works. Kye Palmer
Kye Palmer is a trumpet player who is a Los Angeles studio musician, most notable as a former member of The Tonight Show Band from 2006 to 2009. On April 10, 2006, Palmer replaced Lee Thornburg in The Tonight Show Band and was there for the last part of Kevin Eubanks's tenure with ''The Tonight Show''. He has recorded on several Grammy Award nominated or winning projects over the past 20 years. Early years and education Palmer, a native Californian originally from Redlands, started being interested in music at the age of 7. An early source of inspiration for him was being a part of the well known Stan Kenton Band Clinics at the University of Redlands.
