Up The Ladder
''Up the Ladder'' is a 1925 American drama film directed by Edward Sloman, written by Tom McNamara and Grant Carpenter, and starring Virginia Valli, Forrest Stanley, Margaret Livingston, Holmes Herbert, Lydia Yeamans Titus and Priscilla Moran. Based on the 1922 play ''Up the Ladder'' by Owen Davis, the film was released on May 3, 1925, by Universal Pictures. Plot Jane Cornwall, a young heir who is in love with James Van Clinton, sacrifices part of her great fortune to fund her boyfriend's research. James is able to fine-tune his invention, the Tele-vision scope, which meets with great success so that he can marry Jane. But after five years, James begins to neglect both his wife and his job. His attention goes to Helen Newhall, his wife's best friend. Jane, aware of the report, decides not to intervene. The man is facing a new financial crisis and has to resort to Jane's money again. Edward Sloman
Edward Sloman (19 July 1886, London - 29 September 1972, Woodland Hills, California) was an English silent film director, actor, screenwriter and radio broadcaster. He directed over 100 films and starred in over 30 films as an actor between 1913 and 1938. Post-cinema work After directing over 100 films and starring in over 30, Sloman made his last film in 1938 and in 1939 left the film industry to enter radio broadcasting as a writer, producer and director. Unfortunately the majority of Sloman's works have been lost. However, his 1927 Universal silent ''Alias the Deacon'' starring Jean Hersholt is held by the Library of Congress. He died in Woodland Hills, California in 1972 aged 86. Olive Ann Alcorn
Olive Ann Alcorn (March 10, 1900 – January 8, 1972) was an American dancer, model, and silent film actress of the 1910s and 1920s. She is better remembered today for the numerous nude photographs of her from the era than for her film work. Life Olive Ann was born in Stillwater, Minnesota. She graduated from the Denishawn School of Dancing and Related Arts, and was a member of the Denishawn Players which toured across the nation putting on performances in theaters and auditoriums. After 1928 little is known about Olive Ann Alcorn, though it is believed she continued her involvement in dance. She married twice, her first husband being Louis H. Scherer (divorced 1925) and her second husband being Harry Singer (married May 22, 1928). She died in Los Angeles, California in 1972 after being diagnosed with anal cancer. George Fawcett (August 25, 1860 – June 6, 1939) was an American stage and film actor of the silent era. Biography Born in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1860, Fawcett graduated from the University of Virginia. His initial inclination was to be an attorney, but he became a Shakespearean actor instead. Fawcett had his own acting troupe, the Fawcett Stock Company. He appeared on stage in such plays as ''Ghosts'' (1905) with Mary Shaw, ''The Squaw Man'' (1905) with William Faversham, ''The Great John Ganton'' (1909) with an up-and-coming actress Laurette Taylor in the cast, and ''Getting a Polish'' (1910) with actress May Irwin. Fawcett's film debut came in 1915 in ''The Majesty of the Law'', and he appeared in 151 films between 1915 and 1933. He also directed films.
