Up And Coming (TV Series)
''Up and Coming'' is an American television drama series which aired on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) during the 1980-1981 season. Synopsis The series depicts the Wilsons, a successful African American family from Oakland, California who moves into an integrated, middle-class neighborhood in nearby San Francisco. Although it was short-lived, it was one of the first weekly American TV drama series centered on an African American family (preceded only by '' Harris and Company'', a 1979 NBC drama starring Bernie Casey). Among the cast members were former Stanford University basketball star L. Wolfe Perry, Jr. and a teenage Cindy Herron (who years later would become a founding member of the R&B female quartet En Vogue). The theme song is a cover version of the Bill Withers tune "The Best You Can". The original version can be found on Withers' 1975 album '' Making Music''. Robert DoQui
Robert DoQui (April 20, 1934 – February 9, 2008) was an American actor who starred in film and on television. He is best known for his roles as King George in the 1973 film ''Coffy'', starring Pam Grier; as Wade in Robert Altman's 1975 film ''Nashville''; and as Sgt. Warren Reed in the 1987 science fiction film ''RoboCop'', the 1990 sequel ''RoboCop 2'', and the 1993 sequel ''RoboCop 3''. He starred on television and is also known for his voice as Pablo Robertson on the cartoon series ''Harlem Globetrotters'' from 1970 to 1973. Early life DoQui was born on April 20, 1934, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Air Force before heading to Hollywood in the early 1960s. Stanford Cardinal Men's Basketball
The Stanford Cardinal men's basketball team represents Stanford University in Stanford, California, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Pac-12 Conference. They are coached by Jerod Haase and play their home games at Maples Pavilion. Stanford began varsity intercollegiate competition in men's basketball in 1914. The Cardinal have won 13 conference championships (8 in the PCC and 5 in the Pac-10), the last in 2004, and one NCAA championship, in 1942. En Vogue is an American vocal girl group whose original lineup consisted of singers Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones. Formed in Oakland, California, in 1989, En Vogue reached No. 2 on the US Hot 100 with the single "Hold On", taken from their 1990 debut album '' Born to Sing''. Bernard Terry Casey (June 8, 1939 – September 19, 2017) was an American actor, poet and professional American football player. Early life Casey was born in Wyco, West Virginia, the son of Flossie (Coleman) and Frank Leslie Casey. He graduated from East High School in Columbus, Ohio. Career Athletics Casey was a record-breaking hurdler for Bowling Green State University and helped the 1959 football team win a small college national championship. Casey earned All-America recognition and a trip to the finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1960. In addition to national honors, he won three consecutive Mid-American Conference titles in the high-hurdles, 1958–60.
