Unleashed (Bow Wow Album)
''Unleashed'' is the third studio album by American rapper Bow Wow. It was released on August 19, 2003, by Columbia Records. Recording sessions for the album took place from 2002 to 2003. The album features guest appearances from Amerie, Baby, Mario and Jagged Edge, with its production handled by Bink!, The Neptunes, Jazze Pha, Swizz Beatz and Lil Jon, among others. It is Bow Wow's only album without assistance or production from his mentor Jermaine Dupri, and the first album where he dropped the 'Lil' from his stage name after his film debut in ''Like Mike'' (2002). ''Unleashed'' was supported by two singles: " Let's Get Down" and " My Baby". It received mixed reviews from critics, who felt that despite the changes in flow, production and lyrics, Bow Wow didn't distinguish himself enough to stand out from other rappers. Bow Wow (rapper)
Shad Gregory Moss (born March 9, 1987), better known by his stage name Bow Wow (formerly Lil' Bow Wow), is an American rapper and actor. His career began upon being discovered by rapper Snoop Dogg in the late 1990s, eventually being brought to record producer Jermaine Dupri and signed to So So Def Recordings. As Lil' Bow Wow, he released his first album at age 13, '' Beware of Dog'', in 2000, which was followed by ''Doggy Bag'' a year later. In 2003, Bow Wow released his third album ''Unleashed'', which was the first album released after dropping the "Lil'" from his stage name, and the first not to be released by So So Def. His next album, '' Wanted'' (2005), spawned his two highest-charting singles, "Let Me Hold You" (featuring Omarion) and " Like You" (featuring Ciara). Jagged Edge (American Group)
Jagged Edge is an American R&B group from Atlanta, Georgia. The group, initially signed to record producer Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Recordings, is best known for their string of hit singles including " Let's Get Married" and "Where the Party At" (featuring Nelly), most of which were produced by Dupri. The group's members include identical twin lead singers Brian and Brandon Casey as well as Richard Wingo and Kyle Norman. The group's debut album, ''A Jagged Era'' (1997), performed modestly at the time of its release but achieved gold status; however, their subsequent albums until 2007 all became commercial successes—debuting within the top 10 of the ''Billboard'' 200. Wingo was a late addition to the group, added after a recommendation from Kandi Burruss of Xscape. Burruss was also the one who brought the group to the attention of Dupri, who signed them to his Columbia Records distributed imprint, So So Def Recordings. ''Like Mike: Music From the Motion Picture'' is the soundtrack to the 2002 film, ''Like Mike''. It was released on July 2, 2002 through So So Def Recordings and consisted of hip hop and contemporary R&B with production from the likes of Jermaine Dupri, The Neptunes and Alicia Keys. The soundtrack spawned two singles, the first being "Basketball", a cover of Kurtis Blow's 1984 song, performed by Lil' Bow Wow featuring Jermaine Dupri, Fabolous and Fundisha. The other is "Take Ya Home" by Lil' Bow Wow, taken from his second album ''Doggy Bag'', which serves as the theme song for the film. It also features music from Amerie, Jagged Edge, Solange and more. "Basketball" is a rap song written by William Waring, Robert Ford, Kurtis Blow, J. B. Moore, Jimmy Bralower, and Full Force and recorded by Kurtis Blow, released in 1984 from his album '' Ego Trip''. Song history According to Blow, the idea for the song came from his then-girlfriend (whom he later married), who told him, "You need to make a song about basketball, it's the No. 1 sport for African-Americans and nobody has done it yet." Twenty-five famous basketball players are mentioned during the recording. Waring was primarily responsible for choosing which players would be mentioned in the song, but Blow specified that his favorite player, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, would be mentioned first. Blow said in 2013, "We wanted the guys we grew up watching who were all out of the league by the time the song came out, and the best of that time."
