União Esporte Clube, commonly referred to as União Rondonópolis, is a Brazilian professional club based in Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso founded on 6 June 1973. It competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D, the fourth tier of Brazilian football, as well as in the Campeonato Mato-Grossense, the top flight of the Mato Grosso state football league. History União Esporte Clube were founded on June 6, 1973. They won the Torneio Incentivo in 1975, 1976 and in 1979. União were eliminated in the first stage in the Green module of the Copa João Havelange in 2000. The club competed in the 2009 Copa do Brasil, when they gained national fame after beating Internacional 1–0 on February 18, in the first leg of the first round of the cup. However, the club were eliminated in that round, after being defeated 2–0 in the second leg. Stadium União Rondonópolis play their home games at Estádio Engenheiro Lutero Lopes. 2009 Copa Do Brasil
The 2009 Copa do Brasil was the 21st edition of the Copa do Brasil. It began on February 18 and ended on July 1. Format The tournament is played in six stages, with two teams playing a two-legged tie in each stage. In the first two rounds, if the away team wins the first match by at least a 2-goal difference, it will move towards next round. The away goals rule is also used in the Copa do Brasil. The winner will qualify to the 2010 Copa Libertadores, which prevents them from participating in next year's Copa do Brasil. Qualified teams The 2009 edition was contested by 64 teams. 54 clubs qualified through their respective state championship or some other competition. The 2000 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (officially the Copa João Havelange) was the 44th edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the top-level of professional football in Brazil. Due to legal complications, the championship was organized by Clube dos 13 instead of CBF, and was contested by 116 teams divided in modules, equivalent to their division—similar to the 1987 Copa União. It started on July 29 and ended on January 18, 2001, with Vasco da Gama winning the championship—its fourth title. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série D (English: Brazilian Championship Serie D) is the fourth division of the Brazilian football league system, and was announced by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on April 9, 2008. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série D was formed from the split of the Série C, keeping its best 20 clubs and playing double round robin as does the top three divisions. The Série D keeps the same format of the older Série C, but with participation limited to 40 clubs recognized by the state federation.
