The University of Bergamo ( it, Università degli Studi di Bergamo; acronym: UniBG) is an Italian public university located in Bergamo, Italy. It was founded on 11 December 1968 and is organized in seven departments, three campuses and forty-one degree courses. History The University of Bergamo, founded in 1968, was originally named "Institute of Foreign Languages and Literature". Under Rector Serio Galeotti (1972–75), the degree course in economics and business was introduced (1974), finally becoming a Faculty in 1988. During the rectorship of Giorgio Szëgo, characterized by the new Faculty of Economics, the university continued to expand, but it was the Rector Pietro Enrico Ferri in 1990 who opened the Faculty of Engineering in Dalmine and accompanied the transfer of the private institute to the State under the new name "University of the Studies of Bergamo". Bergamo
Bergamo (; lmo, Bèrghem ; from the proto- Germanic elements *''berg +*heim'', the "mountain home") is a city in the alpine Lombardy region of northern Italy, approximately northeast of Milan, and about from Switzerland, the alpine lakes Como and Iseo and 70 km (43 mi) from Garda and Maggiore. Paolo Cesaretti (born 1957 in Milan) is an Italian historian, lecturer from the University of Bergamo. He is professor of Byzantine civilization and Roman history. Operations research ( en-GB, operational research) (U.S. Air Force Specialty Code: Operations Analysis), often shortened to the initialism OR, is a discipline that deals with the development and application of analytical methods to improve decision-making. Renata Mansini (born 22 August 1968) is an Italian applied mathematics, applied mathematician, economist, and operations researcher known for her research on problems in mathematical optimization including portfolio optimization and Vehicle routing problem, vehicle routing. She is a professor of operations research at the University of Brescia. Gianluca Bocchi (born 19 December 1954) is an Italian philosopher. Emanuela Casti (born 1950 in Mira, Venice, Italy) is an Italian geographer and a cartography theorist. Considered an innovator, she has formalized a semiotic theory for the interpretation of maps in their various forms: from historical maps to cybercartography systems. Liliana Segre
Liliana Segre (; born 10 September 1930) is an Italian Holocaust survivor, named senator for life by President Sergio Mattarella in 2018 for outstanding patriotic merits in the social field. Born in 1930 into a Milanese family of Jewish origins, in 1938 Segre was expelled from her primary school after the promulgation of the Italian Racial Laws. In 1943, she was arrested with her family and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The only survivor among her relatives, with the end of the World War II in 1945, she returned to Milan.
