The University of South Florida Sarasota–Manatee (also known as USFSM or USF Sarasota-Manatee) is a branch campus of the University of South Florida in Sarasota, Florida. USFSM was established in 1975 as a regional campus of the University of South Florida and gained separate accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and master's degrees in June 2011. It was consolidated with the other two USF campuses (Tampa and University of South Florida St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg) as of July 1, 2020. USFSM offers more than 40 bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and certificate programs in four colleges: Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Science and Math, Business, and Hospitality and Tourism Leadership. The ''Sarasota Herald-Tribune'' is a daily newspaper, located in Sarasota, Florida, founded in 1925 as the ''Sarasota Herald''. History The newspaper was owned by The New York Times Company from 1982 to 2012. It was then owned by Halifax Media Group from 2012 to 2015, when New Media Investment Group acquired Halifax. The ''Herald-Tribune'' was one of the first newspapers in the nation to have an in-house 24-hour cable news channel. SNN was founded in 1995 along with partner Comcast. SNN was sold to private investors in January 2009. WUSF (89.7 FM) is the flagship National Public Radio member station in the Tampa Bay area. It is licensed to Tampa and owned by the University of South Florida. WUSF signed on in 1963, seven years after USF's founding in 1956. It joined NPR in 1976 and was the first public radio station in the country—and the first station of any kind in Florida—to launch HD radio. WUSF's current format features news and talk programming 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, outsourced from NPR and other public radio production outfits. Its HD Radio feed features classical music from sister station WSMR. In 2010, USF acquired Sarasota Christian radio station WSMR 89.1 MHz from Northwestern College of Roseville, Minnesota.
