The Orto Botanico dell'Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia, also known as the Orto Botanico di Modena or formerly Hortus Botanicus Mutinensis, is a botanical garden operated by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. It is located next to the Garden Ducale (Public Gardens), at viale Caduti in Guerra 127, Modena, Italy, and open weekdays during the warmer months except August. Admission is free. The garden was established in 1758 by Duke Francesco III d'Este for medicinal plants, becoming part of the university in 1772. Mattia Binotto (born 3 November 1969) is a Swiss-born Italian engineer and the former team principal of Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One. He was appointed to the role on 7 January 2019, replacing Maurizio Arrivabene. His parents are Italian. Genoveffa Franchini is an Italian-American hematologist and retrovirologist. She is a senior investigator in the vaccine branch and head of the animal models and retroviral vaccines section at the National Cancer Institute. Franchini has pioneered research on oncogenes and human retroviruses. She researches HIV vaccine development and translational methods of disease prevention.
