The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a public research university with campuses in Vancouver and The Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada. In 1915, it became the first university established in the province of B.C. (British Columbia). With an annual research budget of $773million CAD, UBC funds over 10,000 projects annually. The Vancouver campus is situated adjacent to the University Endowment Lands located west of downtown Vancouver. UBC is home to TRIUMF, Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, which boasts the world's largest cyclotron. Steven Point
Steven Lewis Point, (''Xwĕ lī qwĕl tĕl'') (born July 28, 1951) is a Canadian jurist and current chancellor of the University of British Columbia. He served as the 28th Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from 2007 to 2012. He also served as the chair of the advisory committee on the safety and security of vulnerable women, a committee that provides community-based guidance to the implementation of the recommendations from the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry. From 1975 to 1999, Point served as Chief of the Skowkale First Nation. From 1994 to 1999 he served as Tribal Chair of the Stó:lō Nation. Education Point attended the University of British Columbia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in May, 1985, and was later a faculty member.
