University High School is a senior high school in unincorporated Monongalia County, West Virginia, near Morgantown. A part of Monongalia County Schools, it houses just over 1,250 students. It is a part of the Monongalia County Schools. Students largely come from the 2 feeder schools, Mountaineer Middle School (formerly Cheat Lake Middle School), and Westwood Middle School. In addition to sections of Morgantown, the school serves the City of Westover. History Founding The school was established by West Virginia University in September 1925 as University Demonstration High School. It was not uncommon in the south for colleges to found "demonstration schools", ostensibly as a place for students to learn educational techniques, but also because many professors were unwilling to send their children to public schools of that era. ''The Journal'' is a daily newspaper based in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and serving Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties in the state's Eastern Panhandle. It is owned by Ogden Newspapers. Skylar Annette Neese (February 10, 1996July 6, 2012) was an American teenage girl who disappeared from her home in Star City, West Virginia, around midnight on July 6, 2012. Neese's body was found on January 16, 2013, in Wayne Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Neese was murdered by two of her high school best friends, Shelia Eddy and Rachel Shoaf. On January 3, 2013, Shoaf confessed to authorities that she and Eddy planned and carried out Neese's murder. Shoaf pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on May 1, 2013, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison with eligibility for parole after 10 years. Josh Steven Judy (born February 9, 1986) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cleveland Indians. Amateur career Judy played his high school baseball for University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia, leading them to the West Virginia State Baseball tournament for the first time in over 40 years. He also helped lead Morgantown Post 2 American Legion team to the Mid-Atlantic Regional in his final season with the club. Jedd Lindon Gyorko ( ; born September 23, 1988) is an American former professional baseball infielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers.
